A fully charged Mach E would run your household essentials for several days. I have an energy monitor on every breaker so I know exactly what each circuit consumes. We could get by using 7-8kWh a day.
If there were a way to use it. It's a shame they didn't include even a single 120V outlet in our MMEs, let alone a small bank of them like the Lightning has.

There should be a way of feeding the power back into your panel via a transfer switch.

There is but you would need a 220v inverter or only set up a 100v sub-panel.

The Lightning will do that if you buy/install the right equipment. I'm less interested in that (and the expense), but I would like one simple 120V outlet in the car to plug into. Even my Escape has that (although that one is low amperage). Very surprised the MME didn't include one.

Well, the wife wanted to leave last week(!). I convinced her I was too tired and that we’d go today. She woke up at 5 rarin’ to evacuate. We hit the road at about 6:20 with a full charge. Traffic was light all the way. Charged at an FPL station at Fort Pierce on the turnpike. I was the only one with 2 or 3 Teslas on their bank. Food court was deserted. Arrived safely in Lauderdale around 11. No drama. No hassle. Lots of rain down here though. We’ll see what it’s like on the mass return on Friday. (EA is still free and still lacking in maintenance - 3 out of 4 down in Coral Springs.)
Good to hear. My neighbors went south east to Ft Lauderdale yesterday and said traffic that way wasn’t bad.

If this were another Irma (where the entire state drove the same direction, North), there would be no chance of finding a charger.

Or,…
You don’t wait til. The last second and it’s apiece of cake. Besides, with a 300 mile range, you have pretty big first leg. To safety.

If you leave early, that means 19 out of 20 times you’ll be evacuating when you really don’t have to.

Sure, that works for individuals (leaving early and always), but that doesn’t solve the DC chargers for the whole population.

And the whole population is the issue to solve. Can’t just get the “early birds” to safety.

Hurricane evacuation really is a crap-shoot. Leave early and it shifts, leave late and there are no hotel rooms. We have never evacuated but I was ready to jump in the car after the 5:00am update back in 2017. The hurricane weakened and shifted overnight so I just stayed put.

I feel for those in Florida. Back here in Nebraska we have Tornados, Blizzards you name it but the one thing we don't have are Hurricanes. They are all scary but the one thing that everyone should do is heed the warnings. Sure, many times than not you would have been okay but it is that one time that you really wished you did take cover so to speak.

Life is short enough and I really wish more would take advice rather than have the rescue teams risk their lives for those that chose to not listen to sound advice.

Now while I am a long way from Florida, the news that I was hearing from down there would have scared the heck out of me. I personally would have been long gone a couple days ago. One can always come back.

Godspeed.

Tampa Bay looks like it was mostly spared.

Down south it’s definitely not good. Houses under water. Wind gusts to 170 mph. I hope everyone got to safety!

Buddy sent me this picture today……..

We didn’t lose power so no need to sleep in the car last night! Biggest problem right now is a water pipe that decided to burst over night!

Hurricane forecasts are much better these days for most tracks. A 200 mile range will get you to safety if you are driving more perpendicular to the storm track. The sad reality is many people leave too late to safely evac, traffic on roadways is a nightmare.
