Fast charge doesn’t work when under 10%?

I had the misfortune today of falling below 10% battery charge. The fast charger (level 3 ccs connector at 67kwh) refused to charge the car. I called the charge station provider (chargepoint) and they told me level 3 charging won’t work unless you have 10% min battery.

is this true ? I saw a rivian come in on 8% charge and it fast charged just fine !

Absolutely untrue. They were very mistaken or lied to you. There’s no reason your MME shouldn’t be able to charge from that or any other level. The operator should have rebooted the unit for you. Hopefully, you just moved to another unit and got your charge.

I can state from experience this is nonsense. I've personally charged at EA stations multiple times from under 10%.

Thank you guys. It’s a long story but the jest of it was none the machines I tried worked. I ended up finally running out of battery and had to be towed to a L3 charger … which of course didn’t work also . To as injury to insult it was 18 degrees outside and snowing. No heat etc.

If you watch any of Out of Spec videos you'll know that is false as they repeatedly charge at 0% LOL.

as you might be starting to surmise, something might be wrong with your car. are you indicating that you have since successfully charged via lvl2/lvl1? if so i'd suggest you run it down a bit and try lvl3 again (try to run it to around 30-40% so you know you can test fast charging speeds), i'd suspect it still won't work...

We're you trying to use plug and charge by any chance? That thing rarely works and you have to manually initiate charge from the ford pass app

Not true.
Sounds like your car has some sort of malfunction. Did you get any error messages on the dash or FordPass? How about the charging ring by the charge port? Was it illuminated red and blinking by any chance?

Responding to a bunch questions in no particular order.

1. Yes I was able to fast charge level 3 with less than 10% with a different charger.

2. The L3 chargers where chargepoint rep said they won’t work with under 10% charge ( and they didn’t ), we’ll come to find out she sent the signal to the complete wrong address where the charger was located. Had she initiated the charge manually I’m sure it would have worked.

3. The fordpass is so unreliable that I just use separate apps for charging which I have a membership. Like EVgo, chargepoint etc .

4 . The numerous other chargers were somewhat buried in snow and the providers report they couldn’t get a signal to them. This is out in the sticks before Lake Tahoe.
