So I got a chance to go on a little trip yesterday. I planned it to be long enough to be able to stop at an EA station and try out Plug and Charge since I have it activated now.

I didn't have high hopes just seeing all the issues people have had. But It was a perfect charging stop. I pulled up, plugged in the car, and in less than 60 seconds charging had started. I also tried a 350kw station as I've had an issue with those every time.

I pulled in with 8% charge. After plugging in and starting the charging, by the time I could get the screen to show me charging stats, it was already up to 10% SoC.

By 20% it had dropped to about 108kw. I also got some stats from Forscan.

By the time I got to 46% it was tapering down pretty bad. And that was enough to get me home. So I let it hit 50% and stopped the charge

Forgot to mention that this was an ABB unit.

Glad to hear you had a successful experience at an EA charger. I tried it out today at a Charge Point charger that was listed as being "In-Network" but was not successful. Does anyone know if P&C is only supposed to work on EA chargers?

Probably. It definitely doesn't work with ChargePoint since they're opposed to it for some dumb reason.

It only works on EA. And I think one other network that I've never actually seen. Greenlots or something.

OK, that makes sense. In FordPass, it shows EA and Shell Greenlots icons under the P&C submenu

Plug&Charge is only supported by Electrify America and Greenlots, but to the best of my abilities, I have not been able to actually track down a Greenlots charger that exists in the real world that is Plug&Charge enabled. It seems aspirational on their end to even list themselves under Plug&Charge.

ChargePoint is actually opposed to Plug&Charge, so they will not be implementing it anytime soon until they get over their suggestions to the standard getting snubbed or whatever got them so grumpy.

"In-Network" means you can use FordPass (when it works) to activate the session, no ChargePoint app needed. I tried this evening on a Greenlots "In-Network" charger and FordPass failed 3x to activate, I resorted to the Greenlots app, which failed 2x to activate, and when it finally did it appears to have been free... so I'm complaining but also not complaining? :p

maybe, this is a dumb question, but what does it mean to use FordPass to "activate the session"?

Basically you can charge to your credit card registered with ford to pay instead of having a separate account for each network.

If a charger is "In Network" you can activate the session directly from within FordPass, not the networks' own app. So instead of using the ChargePoint app, you can use FordPass.

It in theory helps with the problem that most networks require you to deposit $5-10 at all times with them, I've lost track of how many networks have $2.36 or whatever of my money sitting there collecting dust at zero interest.

When you open FordPass, you should see "Find Nearby Chargers" or you can find them on the Map tab.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Finally got to test out P&C 1615777976045

Then you find the one you want and it'll say "In-Network"

Ford Mustang Mach-E Finally got to test out P&C 1615778007708

Then you pick the actual # of the charger you're at, and hit activate:

Ford Mustang Mach-E Finally got to test out P&C 1615778039486

And by doing that, you'll get a charge from Ford on your saved credit card for exactly the cost of the session, no pre-loading money, no need for your own ChargePoint account, etc.

When it works. Which is not 100% of the time for me anyway.

OK, I set up a credit card under connected services. I just need to figure out where to go in FordPass to activate the session.

Only ElectrifyAmerica and GreenLots have chargers that support P&C. Also, the 250 kWh charging credit you get with your car is ONLY valid if you are at Electrify America.

The concept of "in network" means that with the FordPass charging network (where you entered your credit card) can bill you for the charge session via FordPass (you wouldn't need to install the networks own payment app). But you do have to use the FordPass app to manually start the charge session if they don't support P&C.

Thanks. You answered my question, before I asked!

So, I don't want to derail your thread, but what hardware and version of Forscan are you using? is it a beta version of Forscan? I want to help out the ABRP guys get data on the Mach E but last I heard Forscan (and basically every other OBD-II app) didn't really know what to do with a Mach E

You can go on the forscan message board and request the version that will work. There was also a thread on here with instructions and a link to the version that works.
