Neat, I cheaped out and opened my desk draw found 2 black twisty wire ties from cords when you buy electronics, and used those to attach in similar form. Black blends in and honestly I have a Ram 1500 if I plan to haul anything significant, not my MME:)

Ford could have easily done this

My Mazda CX5 has this arrangement. When you have taller items just detach from the clips and the rest of the cover rolls back. Perhaps this arrangement is copyrighted by Mazda?

The reason the cover is getting detached is because the lower end is catching onto something. The reason why Ford didn't make stronger upper end latch is because it could deform or break the cover.
The real solution would have been to have strings or guides attached to the lower end to keep it higher in the air until the trunk is closed.

My concern here would be that if something tall was put in the hatch and closed with the screen in place, the screen would not be able to release as it does now perhaps causing damage to pins or fabric.
I would be reluctant to do this on mine. I would be afraid that I would break the cheap plastic shaft when I put something too big in there. I think it was designed to release in order to keep that shaft from breaking.

There is not much space then you hit the trunk door with the object anyway. As far the back goes there is strings and it will still lift up.

As mentioned by someone in an earlier post. At a certain point you are in charge of making decisions.

If you always load up your trunk all the way to the trunk door, it might be better to leave it off complete. Please do not damage the glass.
If you are like me, which never hauls bulky cargo, then this is a great fix.

It is axiomatic that Informed decision making requires evaluating the pros and cons to ones own circumstances. A corollary in social media is that one will be often criticized, however subtly, for participating in the process.

I've wrapped a layer of electrical tape on each spindle to tighten up the grip. Seems to be working pretty well now. Mine would previously pop off anytime it even barely touched anything. Now it even stays in place when the cover has to drag over the top of a suitcase.

GO RAM!! I have a Lone Star Ram that I bought in Texas 18 years ago and still treat it like it was brand new! I also use it to haul my electric bikes!! :)
