I tried searching for this but the keywords, like phone and charging, bring up an awful lot of results as you can imagine. If someone knows of and wants to point me to a relevant thread, please do.

Anyway, I got my car a week ago and have been loving it. One thing I'm NOT impressed with is the wireless charging pad (using an iPhone 12 Pro). I'm lucky if it stays in charging mode for a minute. I can nudge it in another direction and it'll start charging again...for a minute. I've tried it without the phone case and even without the rubber mat that sits in the charging shelf there. Same result.

Is this common or do I perhaps have an issue specific to my car, phone, or person!?

My charger works fine, but wanted to mention that I bought a case for my phone, making sure to ask if it would charge wirelessly. I was told yes, it would, but it doesn't. So, if you have a case on your phone you may need to see if it charges without the case.

Yes, as I mentioned I did try it without the case, because I have a magsafe case and was wondering whether the magnet ring would mess with a non-magsafe charging surface like that. Still the same sketchy behavior. I guess I may need it looked at, but I can imagine the blank stare I'll get at the dealer. I went ahead and bought a charging cord, too...sigh.

Five months with my car and this has been an issue since day one. Like you, I have an iPhone 12 Pro. I have learned to just live with it, and if I need to charge, plug the phone in. I'm pretty sure it's an issue with iPhones with MagSafe.

Alright, yes, it's looking like an iPhone thing thus far. Should have bought an iMach-e! ?

After my last post I took hubby's iPhone 11 to the MME and it has charged for 15 minutes without stopping. (I stayed in the car playing with other things so I could monitor. ) FWIW

Thanks a lot for doing that, RSH. Interesting. Don't know whether we're down to magsafe iPhone 12s or something else...

We've got a trend here! Maybe I'll get another magsafe charger for the car. It's close enough, but man that seemed like it was going to be convenient!

My iPhone XR charges great on it. In fact I noticed that even with a coiled up usb cord between it and the mat, it still charges ?‍♂

Based on the thread that mdolan posted, this does looks to mainly be an iPhone 12/magsafe issue. Toward the end of that thread, someone shared this 3D printed solution thread. The frame is intended to place the iPhone 12 in the exact right spot. It's surprising to me that there would be an ideal spot since I thought I had just about tried every area, but this may be worth a try. Probably a lot of effort just to get a trickle charge that won't keep up with CarPlay, Waze, etc.!

And, again, the mat in there probably isn't helping things, but I was having issues even without it being in the tray.
