Ford discontinuing Park Assist

In the past 2 years, we talked about testing it a dozen times, but it's such a low value feature to us that there was never a time it made sense to use it instead of just...you know, parking the car.

Same. We've talked about using it and never have. With the 360 camera (which is gold) there's not a lot of need for park assist.

Although the best park assist is just driving a smaller car. In our honda fit I just pull forward into parallel parking spots. I do not live in Chicagoland so spots are compensating-pickup-sized.

Of the times I've used it in a parking lot, it's too slow to be used when other drivers are waiting to go around. It makes me look incompetent and it's an embarrassment.

Hey Ford, "the data said people weren't using it", but have you listened to your customers as to WHY they don't use it? Stop bullshitting the public. You created a subpar feature and people lost faith in it. If it were good, I'd use it.

I forgot to mention the same in my post above. Agreed, the 360 camera is gold. It improves any situation, parallel parking, garage entry, backing up, etc. The 360 chip shortage was the reason we turned down a 2024 Explorer — they still don’t have enough of those.

I think i tried it out a few times the first week I got the car, worked fine, but perhaps a little slow.

I stopped using it though, because I don't really have trouble parking. I usually just turn the 360 camera on and park myself

Tried it once, and I am a much better parallel Parker…. Although I once saw a driver take 32 attempts to parallel park in the same stop so maybe she needed it?

Now that park assist is officially gone. I wonder what Ford plans to do with the switch. In cars (like mine) without park assist it brings up a nav screen to search for a parking spot. The few times I tried this it was not very useful and certainly doesn't need a dedicated switch.

I have since rewired the switch to open the rear hatch. Perhaps Ford could repurpose the switch to do that or find some other use.

Sure, speed is an issue. Complexity is an issue.

Bigger issue to me is that the perpendicular parking has to be next to a vehicle. The only time I park next to a vehicle is when there are no other spaces anywhere.

Parallel park? The last time I parallel parked (not counting pulling directly into a space at the curb) was... I don't remember. Maybe once a year?

It still may be able to be installed in cars with the prep kit. I'd like to get the side proximity sensors working with this and have the park button actually do something.

I had park assist on my Lincoln MKZ, the only time I used it in the 5 years I had the vehicle was when I showed it off to friends, which was three times ?

If we're going to automate parking, I would much rather have the ability to pull a vehicle forward and backward in a parking spot when cars beside you are too tight to open a door.

I used my automated parking exactly once to see how it worked. As others have mentioned, it was very slow. I haven't used it since.

I tried to use it when I first picked up my 2023 in Dec 2022 and it would not work or go into the mode it was suppose to. It seems they had already deactivated it in 2023s.... or maybe a software updated added it later. Now I am curious if it will work now.

Dealer ship says my '23 Premium does not have it. I am not entirely sure about that. But the 360 camera is really nice.
