I have been researching the Ford L2 charger cable. Some places say the cable has to be fully unwound, when connected to the car to charge.
For those of you who have had your MachE's for ages, is this compulsory, or what are your recommendations?

If you are talking about the Ford Connected Charge Station. We have had ours for almost 2 years now some time we have it unwound and some time a portion is hanging on the wall. The cable can get a little warm when charging for extended periods of time at full charge rate which is probably why it is recommended.

Any charging cable should be unwound, or at least very loosely coiled, when in use for cooling.

I put a hook in the wall above the charger. I have one loop of the cable on the charger and a second loop on the hook. This keeps all of the cable exposed to the air so that it doesn't overheat.

Hmm, our Chargepoint EVSE is only about a foot from the MME when parked in the garage so most of the cable remains wound around the ChargePoint Home Flex. Maybe I need to reconsider how we have it. I was wondering about it the other day as we had a longer charge and the cable was warmer than usual where it's wound up, but a huge tripping hazard if I try to extend it out. Maybe need to do a hook and possibly a pulley from the ceiling to get the cable more out in the air.

There's not that much cable. Unless you coil the cord as tightly as absolutely possible, don't sweat it.

Oh okay, I have only used that charger a couple of times so I don't know much on that one.

So you are using the Ford Mobile Charger (FMC). The FMC is notorious for not being able to handle thermal events. Every time it’s used in a hot environment it damages itself a little until it gets to the point of faulting out. Do a search for FMC or orange lights. Some people place a fan so that it blows cooling air on their FMC. I have only used mine one time in cold weather at 110V while duck hunting, so I can’t say that mine has blown up yet. I am planning on getting a Tesla mobile charger to carry in the car because the FMC has a reputation for being so unreliable. ??
