I remember reading a little bit back about Ford transitioning from sync to Android automotive. Not sure if this is still in the works, but I wonder if this transition will improve the Ford navigation and leverage Google maps. Obviously this won't be helpful if it's only rolled out to new models and not existing models already sold.

You can edit Ford maps through the in-car nav, there’s actually a lot of options like setting specific streets/highway you don’t want it to take and all that. Definitely recommend playing around with it.
Hmmm, but playing around with it to customize is exactly what I want to to avoid. I want to use voice commands instructing "Go to store A via Lincoln street, then Oak avenue." I don't want to program the route via some interface that I have to learn.
Unfortunately, I also don't want a pretend conversation with an algorithm suite called Siri or Alexa or Bixby, etc. That is a personal resistance that I may need to resolve in the future. :)

I used the Ford Navigation for my road trip from Rockland County New York, to Eastern North Carolina, Georgia, Western North Carolina, Atlantic City N.J. and finally back to Rockland County. The navigation worked seamlessly as it planned my charging destinations along the route, making it my best road trip ever (first rime in an EV)!

So, you want to use voice commands, but you don’t want to use a phrase so that your car/phone knows you are using voice commands. Did I get this right?

I know there have been a couple threads on how to make edits to maps, but is there a way to do it from the car? I dont want to have to remember where it was wrong and then wait til I get home to make edits. I wish @Ford Motor Company would just give us integrated Google Maps or integrated Waze. I HATE the navigation. I just went to drop my wife off at the Tesla dealership and we were going to go out to eat dinner after that. I used Ford maps and she used Tesla (Google) maps. She beat me there by 15 minutes and I had the head start! I've noticed this many times before. This morning I was going to the gym so I searched by the gym name and it couldn't find it! The cherry on top was when I navigated there, Ford maps said I reached my destination on a main road! My gym was 2 lights up inside a shopping center.
Have you tried using your phone? I guess I’m shocked how many people appear NOT to be doing this.

I use my phone. The whole point is to use the integrated maps

I guess I don’t understand - you want integrated Waze or Google maps. You can use them via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto? What am I missing here?

The only thing I think you loose with Apple Maps and Apple CarPlay is preconditioning your battery before you arrive at a charger (which I think Ford Maps will do - I don’t level 3 charge much - I’ve never looked into that).

No. Ford uses Here.
I thought they used Garmin, I'll look when I get home but there used to be a reference to it in with the licensing information. On the other hand Garmin could use here who knows

Can't you do this with the steering wheel button and disabling the wake word in the settings? I think i tried this out when I first got mine, but that was >2 years ago now, so shrug.

I’m not up on Garmin these days, but they used Navteq maps at one point.

Edit - just looked it up. Navteq is now Here. Seem we‘re both on the right track.

I recently got back from four days away and several hundred miles of driving. I was up in the NH White Mountains and Lakes Region. Cell service comes and goes so preloaded maps are helpful.

I usually use Waze via AA but this time it boned me. Not the first time. Would have added a good ten miles taking me around the world if I had not recognized my exit. Google Maps is still the most accurate mapping in my opinion. I rerouted on the fly using Maps and showed the more direct route.

What really suck is only Ford's mapping is tied into your SoC. So if you are driving beyond the vehicle's range in an unknown area it is rather critical that you can rely on Ford's navigation.
