I know there have been a couple threads on how to make edits to maps, but is there a way to do it from the car? I dont want to have to remember where it was wrong and then wait til I get home to make edits. I wish @Ford Motor Company would just give us integrated Google Maps or integrated Waze. I HATE the navigation. I just went to drop my wife off at the Tesla dealership and we were going to go out to eat dinner after that. I used Ford maps and she used Tesla (Google) maps. She beat me there by 15 minutes and I had the head start! I've noticed this many times before. This morning I was going to the gym so I searched by the gym name and it couldn't find it! The cherry on top was when I navigated there, Ford maps said I reached my destination on a main road! My gym was 2 lights up inside a shopping center.
I've rarely ever used the Ford Navigation. My iPhone connects wirelessly, almost immediately. I used the Apple Maps integrated with battery data from the car.

I got back from four days away and several hundred miles of driving. I was up in the NH White Mountains and Lakes Region. Cell service comes and goes so preloaded maps are helpful.

I usually use Waze via AA but this time it boned me. Not the first time. Would have added a good ten miles taking me around the world if I had not recognized my exit. Google Maps is still the most accurate mapping in my opinion. I rerouted on the fly using Maps and showed the more direct route.

What really suck is only Ford's mapping is tied into your SoC. So if you are driving beyond the vehicle's range in an unknown area it is rather critical that you can rely on Ford's navigation.
Apple Maps has gotten much better and where I live (Twin Cities) it’s just as good as Google and Ford shares the state of charge (is this what you mean by SoC?). Other than sending me to a Rivian charger, it has worked great for me on a big trip

Can't you do this with the steering wheel button and disabling the wake word in the settings? I think i tried this out when I first got mine, but that was >2 years ago now, so shrug.
Yes you can. That’s how I have mine set up.

I agree the Navigation is bad. I was about 45 mins from home and had enough charge to get there. I turned on the Navigation to see how many miles I had to go. Navigation wanted be to turn around and drive 1/2 hour the opposite direction and charge for 30 mins and then drive home. Ugh.....

Yah I've heard that Apple Maps is hooked into the car's SoC (yes, state of charge is whatever that acronym stands for within this context ?). Consider yourself blessed. Ford did just hire a former Apple executive to oversee some of its software experience. Mr. Farley often acknowledges that cars today are just as much a digital experience as a physical and mechanical one. Here's hoping the next major UI update reflects that belief.

Funny but not funny. Modern day automakers really need to get this stuff figured out. Has a comprehensive video of James' Lightning road trip been posted online yet?

I think automakers should focus on deeper integration with Apple and Google Maps. They are never going to offer a similar experience. I know a few may not agree, but they should build these cars with the assumption that everyone is bringing their own device along.

I like using built-in map data for the same reason I still use a Garmin Nuvi in my ICE car: works solely using GPS and without reliance on cell data coverage. That way it works great in remote areas and everywhere without cell data service (even during cell network failures from power cuts or natural disasters) and avoids needlessly sucking down gobs of data and phone battery power in urban areas.

I stopped using Ford navigation because it would make unnecessary re-routes (sometimes an hour or more out of my way) because my destination was too far from the next DC charger. But in these cases, I'm going to L2 or L1 charge at my destinations (duh). I would be fine with this behavior, but it didn't TELL me why it was rerouting, or even asking, "Hey, you won't be able to get to a DC charger if you go to this destination. Are you going to charge there? Or do you want to reroute to a DC charger first?"

Had I blindly followed it, I would have wasted an hour or more for no good reason. I think there were some ways to change this behavior, but I'm not digging through menus of options, and then hoping it works the way I want it too. Or the settings get reset after an OTA. After the 2nd time this happened, I stopped using it.

With iOS 17 you can download offline maps. As I understand it, Android has been offering this feature for some time now. I just used them in the UP (Upper Peninsula of Michigan) and they worked great offline

I feel a little out-of-place in this thread - the Ford nav is actually my favorite out of any I've used. No other app will tell me which LANE I need to use on an exit.

I HATE having to cross 4 lanes in heavy traffic in 500', and cutting out even one lane makes that sort of thing so much more doable.

One thing that is bugging me is the bad user interface design. When you use voice Navigate command, the speech recognition sometimes is poor, you tell it to navigate to Fowler Park and it starts navigating to Fuller Park. And it doesn't show destination on the screen unless you press Details. Since you can't trust voice recognition you have to always push Details and back.

I use Android Auto. Once setup, it's just there. Yes, takes a moment to launch, but otherwise I am very glad Ford allows it's use. Thank you, Ford!
My wife's Tesla does not allow it, and frankly, that sucks. You have to pay extra connectivity fees to Tesla to get real-time traffic, etc. Seems pretty stupid to have to have a phone holder so you can use your phone to navigate when you have that big beautiful touch screen...
