Just picked up my new car yesterday. Drove it a good amount of miles and charge was down to 65%. I’m at my sisters house in Illinois before I will drive back to AZ next week. So I thought I’d plug it in and try out the mobile charger. It’s only charging at 1 KWh rate. Adding a whole 3 miles per hour! At this rate it won’t fully charge until tomorrow.

why is it charging at such a low rate?

From Ford's website:
Ford Mobile Charger PDF

The Ford Mobile Charger can use either a:
  1. Standard home 120V outlet (3 miles of range per charging hour)* OR
  2. 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet (20 miles of range per charging hour)* to be installed by a licensed electrician

Don’t see a 240v plug in my kit. Only 120v.

The charger comes with two connectors. But you need an electrician to come and install a 240 volt outlet. There are instructions for this on the Ford website and lots of posts here also.

And make sure that any outlet is rated for at least 40 amps. The plug is a 14-50, which is a 50amp plug. The circuit is normally 50amps. You cannot use a 30amp dryer circuit.

Probably because you’re stealing your sister’s electricity!

Don’t forget to take food out of her fridge to fill up a to go cooler for the drive home! ?

But yeah, 120v is slow.

I did find the 240 plug, duh?. Good to know it needs at least 40 amps. Unfortunately she doesn’t have one. Thanks all. ?
