Did everyone else get this messege in Fordpass? This looks like the dynamic range estimation they were beta testing a while ago.

This is the re-introduction of Intelligent Range that early access tested last year. Hopefully it works better now than it did in testing.

This is a server side change and no update will come to enable it.

I'm looking forward to testing this out. I drive a regular route to our cabin in the mountains that includes large temperature, elevation, and traffic fluctuations.

I got the message in FordPass too, will be interesting to see how it changes the GOM.

So far it doesn't appear to actually be active on my car yet. In testing it would pop up every day as soon I started driving that the range was revised.

Does Ford Nav need to know where you're going?
That is one scenario it will update the range.

I never got a revision from Nav in the testing period. Only from external temps. Every drive As soon as I put the car in gear, it would pop up that range was revised due to external temps.

I have to say, these kind of updates are always exciting. I know the results aren't always positive but it is cool to see that Ford engineers aren't just chilling at work like me
We don't even know if it actually works yet, that was a major issue in the previous testing.

this is server side? so the car can't make a range estimate without communicating with the cloud? or is it just the revision to the range that needs the server? weird that the car can accept a tweak to the range at all assuming it's mostly calculated internally.

Correct, I think the Ford Nav locally calculates the route and is sent to the server, the server crunches how much energy it will take based on speed, elevation, weather conditions, and your driver history, and then sends an update back to the car if the range estimate will be significantly different than currently displayed. There is a "threshold" situation where if the range isn't much different, it won't update, only if there's a significant difference. Such as if you normally drive ~50 mph in a city environment and then take a road trip where you drive ~75 mph. Conversely if you drive fast all the time, you won't really seen an update unless you take a "slow" route. Significant temperature change was also another trigger.
