for about two years the Shell stations were free in my area. Alas, they now charge more than Tesla does for their shitty level 2 speeds.. I used to plug in and walk to work....ahhh the gold old free electricity days..

Nothing is free. Somebody is paying for it. In today’s world, all is good as long is someone else is paying.

Early days, lots of free hotel level 2 chargers. Still had one a few weeks ago. That being said, it seems the hotel chains & charging co. have figured out a way to monetize. And some of these chargers are as expensive as a DCFC!!!

btw, a blue EV6 unplugged me at the last hotel charger while I was sleeping. I find that unacceptable. First come First serve!!!

I find that the hotels are being converted from free to paid by companies like EVGo and Blink. Hilton is installing 20,000 Tesla chargers, but I have yet to see that impact.

I also find that in the upper Midwest, few hotels have charging. We just did a trip staying at 11 hotels in the US and Canada. Of those, 4 had charging.

I also find that people have improperly tagged hotels in PlugShare. "Lodging" should be hotels with chargers, not chargers with hotels nearby. I end up editing them when I find that.

Well certainly not "free" but my home solar is beginning to pay off quicker than my long term calculations. With utility companies getting price increases passed onto us and now the fossil fuel debacle, it might pay to look at solar installation for your home or business if you are planning to hang around the area for a few years. I don't even bother to consider hotel chargers for a good many reasons. Security being foremost.

The Hampton Inn in La Grande, Oregon installed some L2 chargers and it’s downright criminal how much they charge! $0.60/kWh for their overnight chargers. Across the street are Starbucks DC fast chargers that are $0.55/kWh.

Part of Hilton's push to install 20,000. And, ridiculously priced. Nearby EA is 56 cents, 42 with membership.

We had planned on a trip last week to go from Sun Peaks, BC down to Sun Valley, ID, staying in La Grande at the Hampton overnight. I planned on charging elsewhere though.

I live in central California, I find that every casino I visit has free charging in their parking garages. Funny thing is that I really don't gamble much, but I do eat at their restaurants and sometimes stay in the hotels, but I find I patronize them more often, since the drive will basically be free.

You are clueless. When I get free charging at Target or Home Depot near my apartment I then shop there. They are getting traffic and customers. When I get free charging at my work they are rewarding me for great work.

“Free” L2 is pretty silly unless it’s at a hotel. Why even bother plugging in for a 30 minute errand?

A few years ago, the local utility had some free crappy old L2s open to the public at their main office, which was a couple blocks from where I worked. I would take my battery down to 20-30% and park there one workday per week to get back to 90. It was great. Then more people started buying EVs, it got harder to find a charger, one of the chargers stopped working. Then another. Then the utility just scraped them all. Those were the days. Now I’ve gotta pay about $10 a month to charge in my garage.

There are a handful of free chargers near my home. Both level 2, and level 3. And if I can get a drive in pass here at work, I could charge here for free too.

Yeah our local Publix grocery store has a couple L2 chargers. I do not spend hours at the grocery.
