Well it's only a BCM and GFM update and a one digit adjustment to the asbuilt settings for the APIM and you'd all have the working frunk soft button on the access screen and the door keypad (as well as FP I imagine).

I have no idea why this is such a challenge, but clearly the OTA team have been very naughty this year. Not nice!

My medium term plan is to trade Otto in on a GT-PE in 2024 or 2025. That’s when I’ll get a Frunk with a remote release.
My game plan is to trade in for a GT PE after the model refresh. I’m guessing that will be MY 25.

That’s my plan as well. I’m thinking that realistically it won’t be 2024.

Hope this isn’t going to be the only way for us Job 1 owners without FDRS to get a frunk button. I wasn’t even thinking of trading yet.
This morning, however, I had to go to the grocery store and I had parked too close to a curb on the driver’s side. I didn’t want to have to open the door wide enough to get to the frunk latch as I probably would have scraped my door. A frunk button would have really come in handy. @Ford Motor Company, please play Santa and give us all a working frunk button for Christmas. We promise to be good. ?

Nope, got the updates, made the change via Forscan, but not available on FP (yet). I do have the access button, the doorpost keypad and even the switch inside the frunk (FWIW). Now I can finally use the frunk and have already transported takeout and valuables in it.

You don't have to do it with FORScan anymore if you have FDRS. Ford has added a routing in FDRS to add it.
Thanks but actually I have only Forscan at the moment and a J2534 passthru interface.

Not the complete instructions and it's been a few months since I did this. (8) Frunk button | Page 3 | MachEforum - Ford Mustang Mach-E Forum, News, Owners, Discussions

Basically you need FORscan extended license (free for a few months) on a Windows laptop (no other way to run this) in order to get to the routines to set this. I used an OBDLink MX+ (which is a PITA to link but eventually works); your passthrough should be OK I think. Check forscan.org.

After FORscan gets all the data, you scroll down to the module you want to change - again, don't remember which one (APIM?) but the thread has that info somewhere. The process from there is pretty easy, click through a few screens. FORscan will reboot the APIM. BUT - reboot it again (down and out on the steering wheel, hold until the screen restarts) to see the control come up on the access screen.

EDIT: You do need the BCM update or this process will not be available, which AFAIK is not OTA. Possibly also the GWM which should be updated by an OTA. My dealer applied the BCM update it in September.

Thanks, I did it and it works! But is it normal that the frunk command is active when the start button is on, while the trunk command works also when it is off?
Yeah, wish that wasn't so. I am quick to hit the start/stop, I have to double-check myself and switch to Park first.

Yeah, it's a little annoying. But just hit the power button again to get the frunk button to light back up.

Happy New Year 2023! Any update on that frunk button? Or the new Sync 4A refresh? Or turning off alarm interior motion sensors? Or remote start not reverting to guest profile? Or one tap trunk access?
