Remember when this update was supposed to be out to everyone by the end of 2021? What happened? Was anything ever officially said about it?

1. No. I actually don’t recall anyone from Ford saying it was a 2021 feature.
2. No clue. And if Ford didn’t saying anything about the Frunk remote opening being a 2021 update for job 2 cars, this forum happened and we all assumed it to be true.
3. No, or I missed it. Which is also possible.

Just like BlueCruise, Alexa integration, etc this feature is going to be available when you purchase a new Mach-E. Did you miss the part where driving the best version of your Mach-E meant getting a new one every 6 months? Ford could have been clearer about that when they were spewing all their BS about updates, etc. Heck they haven't even told us that BlueCruise was delayed other then in an earnings call. My last communication was coming soon for early access.

Yes, Ford said that the activation of the Frunk button was expected to be pushed in an OTA update in late December of 2021. But since every expected date that they've published for specific features coming via OTA hasn't been met, you really shouldn't put much credibility on them. I know that they say "expected", which isn't a guarantee, but they should really stop putting dates on things.

This is what I remembered seeing, but couldn't find. *Sigh* I wish they'd put this stuff in FDRS and be done with it while they fiddle with non functional OTAs

If they let the cat out of the bag the dealers would be under pressure to update the cars. I don't think Ford wants to swamp the dealers, or pay them to perform the updates.

I’m sure Ford just “retimed” this OTA to ensure “customers had a better OTA experience” ?

I was expecting the frunk button to show up on the app after getting the dealer updates yesterday but no luck. I didn’t expect it to work (like when it was added to the center display after the last update) but thought seeing it would be progress. I assumed the actuator was there for the emergency jump process but maybe not on job 1 builds? Excuse my post if I missed discussion elsewhere.

The frunk button had appeared after a BCM update a while ago, but Ford has since hidden it server side. They will presumably leave it hidden until it’s enabled.

The expectation is that the actuator is present but is disabled via software.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Frunk Open Button (via App) Update 1641433672778

Not to be snarky, but did someone at Ford ever actually say we would have a Frunk remote open capability? Or did we all presume it because it made sense? Been so long I honestly don’t recall any longer.

Yes... Multiple occasions. This may have been the first one, from the global reveal event in November 2019, where Darren Palmer uses a key fob to open the frunk:

We noticed front trunk dividers appearing in some Ford web site imagery starting sometime around September 2020. Ford hosted Live Web Immersion series for reservation/order holders during that time frame... One of the Q&A questions was asking why those are present and can they be removed. Ford responded that the dividers were there for safety.

Which of course led our forum to go insane (people here love speculating on everything and anything).

A bit later, during the December 2020 SEMA Q&A, viewer James asked when we'd have remote open capability for the frunk trunk, and Darren reported that it's coming (no ETA offered):

I can't remember the timeline after that, but for some reason I have it in my head that someone from Ford (likely Mr. Palmer, again?) suggested that customers should expect to receive an update in early 2021 for the frunk electronic opening capability... Obviously, that still has not happened, even though Job 2 vehicles do include this function as shipped.

Thanks Jonathan. I vaguely recall some of that now. Honestly, with all the various things that have gone on with Ford, the Mach-e, supply lines, pandemic adaptations and the like, it’s easy to forget some of this stuff.

Once the button appears on the display (not to mention the emergency release) they shall not take it away. It’s a written rule ?
