This is a warning not to treat the Frunk as a super safe version of a trunk.
The actuator is not built for the same level of opening and closing that a normal trunk does and will break.
Parts are on backorder, and if you can't close your FRUNK, you are SOL since you can't drive it!
My frunk started giving me limited issues a few weeks ago, it would not close.
Many people said you're not slamming it hard enough. I had it for a year at this point I think I know how to close it.
Often, the solution would be to go into the car and pull on the manual release.
This seemed to be the solution until it wasn't.
The actuator failed, leaving it in a halfway state, not fully open or closed.
Before you all say pull the manual release, duh, that happened about 10 seconds into this saga.
Of course, the reason I used the Frunk was it's a portable safe, and I don't want my window smashed and my laptop stolen (again, old car).
Yes, it was hidden, so stop writing that response.
So yes, you guessed it, it worked perfectly as a safe, except a safe with no way in (Broken tumblers).
Two days of waiting for my dealer to cut the latch free.
Laptop retrieved!
But now there is no way to close the hood. All parts are on backorder because....
This appears to be semi-common.
Now I have an un-drivable car waiting for un-finable parts.
If you ever have any trouble with the frunk, think long and hard about what you're putting in it!
You've been warned
There is no ETA on parts; could be next week or next month.
FORD Please put out a service advisory and rethink the latching of the frunk. There should be a manual way of releasing it when it's stuck halfway.
