It’s not happening. Not now, not ever. Jim Farley has stated several times the feature would be coming by (insert date here), yet it’s never showed up. Ford’s actions speaks loud and clear, they couldn’t possibly care less about the frunks on job 1 cars. We bought the cars with a manual release, that’s the way it’s going to stay.
Ehhhh, kinda. I asked for a BCM update at my dealer due to an intermittent lock/door release issue (I exaggerated) and the BCM update enabled electronic frunk release using the door code.

Your dealer can update your FRUNK module so it opens from the center screen, and the door code thing. It still wont open from your phone though since thats a server side change.
There is no frunk module. It's controlled by the BCM. I had mine updated and there's still no screen control or fordpass control. Only the door code.

What's not happening is an OTA update to enable this feature and set up job 1 cars for the FordPass button. That much is crystal clear at this point.

I wrote about this on another post as a Job 1 owner I would love to get a working Frunk button as well. @Ford Motor Company please do that for us early adopters who supported your new EV and went through the pain of a barely working PAAK, Recalls on the windshield and roof, stuck updates, multiple resets when we did get updates other recalls that sent us to the dealers multiple times, one FOB, etc etc
What scares me is after warranty runs out my battery connector will melt. Cost to repair I dont want to know.

The dealer update is fairly worthless. Even if the frunk release is added to infotainment screen, the car has to be on and you have to tap into settings just to open the frunk. You might as well pull the mechanical lever twice.
Yeah, what's the reasoning behind the car needing to be on to open the frunk from the center screen? I don't know how many times I've parked the car & shut it off, only then remembering I needed to get something out of the frunk but couldn't use the screen control. And, the car has to be started...you can't just turn on the accessories...

If the dealer update allows opening from the door keypad as well, that is a huge improvement. You don't even have to open the door or pull twice. And let's say you live in an area of the country where having anything visible in the car puts you at risk of a broken window, frunks are extremely useful.
I don't know if that was a dealer update or something that was included OTA, but I have the door keypad functionality, and it works well. Probably more convenient that pulling out the phone for FordPass, actually. I think it is security code plus long-pressing the 9-0, right?

@Ford Motor Company please make this happen for Job 1 owners OTA. I don't want to leave my car at the dealer for a day for something that should be relatively easy.
Hi @KDub. This make this happen for Job 1 owners OTA doesn't sound like something we want you to experience with you Mach-E. If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your frunk concern on my end.

There is no control on the screen because they didn’t run the additional routine to enable the frunk release on the screen (since they were just fixing a door module issue). I am guessing they also updated your GFM since the functionality depends on both the BCM and GFM (or maybe your GFM was updated to the necessary version via OTA, which is less likely). ??

It's 8 years 100,000 miles on the battery/mechanics for the battery system.

but the cost would be in the range of $2,700 -$3,000 as the part is ~$750 then labor. (drop the battery, replace part, raise battery)

I'd think (hope) due to the well known fault of the component, even if the warranty was up, they should honor a factory replacement.

Yes, even though some of us have the half-a workaround implemented, Ford still needs to get their act together and deploy the proper implementation, including FordPass!
What is that workaround?

It doesn’t. But if you update the BCM without updating the GFM, you’ll get a frunk fault. There’s a bulletin for that frunk fault that says to update the GFM.

What is that workaround?
There are some modules that can be updated via FDRS which will enable opening via the door pillar code and the center screen. I’m sorry, but I don’t remember which ones.

I was one of the first in Sweden to get the Mach e, a job 1 car ! Never a ford again! So disappointed. Ford doesn't s give a sh** about their European customers. Haven't recive any OTA updates and the car hasn't been improved at all since I picked it up in early 2021! I always need to go the dealer to get it up to date, but still so far behind US sync version?
