A General Service Bulletin (GSB) has been released by Ford which lists the latest available software versions for SYNC 4 (APIM) software. See attached file for version numbers. I expect this file to be updated periodically every few months as new APIM versions are released. This should help dealers identify when vehicles are not at the latest level, the previous method of assuming vehicles were up-to-date based on no updates showing was not reliable due to dependencies.

And before someone asks, this GSB does NOT grant you the ability to get free SYNC updates at a dealer, this is only a reference. A different TSB or SSM for a specific problem must be used as the justification for the update.

GENERAL SERVICE BULLETIN
Determining Latest SYNC 4 Software Level
23-7146
25 October 2023
Summary

This article will provide information on determining the latest level of SYNC 4 software due to FDRS limitations that may not expose available software updates and to make sure a complete update has been performed before returning the vehicle to the customer.

Service Information

In-vehicle method

NOTE: In some cases, other modules will need to be updated or updated multiple times before the latest SYNC 4 software is obtained. Always follow the directions in a TSB for the vehicle and model year completely to obtain the latest level of SYNC 4 software.
• While SYNC is powered up with ignition in run or accessory, go to the Settings selection on the center display screen.
- Refer to the Owner's Manual if Settings cannot be found.

• Go to General Settings.
• Select About SYNC.
• Find the SYNC 4 Software Version followed by a number structure such as 4.0.*****. (*=numbers) Compare that version to the latest version located in this link: SNYC 4 Latest Software Level.
• If the version in the vehicle is lower than the number in the document, then follow the applicable TSB or SSM to update the software.
Referring to PTS method
NOTE: In some cases other modules will need to be updated or updated multiple times before the latest SYNC 4 software is obtained. Always follow the directions in a TSB for the vehicle and model year completely to obtain the latest level of SYNC 4 software.
• Go to the PTS website.
• Under the Vehicle ID tab, select By VIN enter the VIN number and select Go.
• When the system loads, highlight the Diagnostics tab and scroll down and select SYNC. Review the part number or version located next to the CIP and compare that to the latest version located in this link: SNYC 4 Latest Software Level.
• If the version in the vehicle is lower than the number in the document, follow the applicable TSB or SSM to update the software.

Neat.

SYNC version numbers can be decoded like this: 4.0.YYDDD. So 4.0.23130 is SYNC 4.0, released on day 130 of 2023.

Right now the 2022's have the latest available SYNC4, according to Ford's documentation... But I'm sure the 2023's will be updated pretty soon.

They don't appear to be referencing the F188 DID as the "named revision".

What DID are they referencing here, the 8033?

And if that's the case why on my '23 model do I seem to have the "latest revision" listed for a '22 model in this list instead? (PU5T-14G682-EE).

My Sync F188 DID is currently PU5T-14G676-CC (Sync 980). It was "-EE" and Sync 915 before the recent OTA update.

Nevermind...I think that chart is already outdated. I think the '23 models have actually 'caught up' to the newer Sync rev that came out for the '22 models (Product 1.8.5 > 1.9.4).

So I guess that chart was accurate up to the 19th of Oct. But if you got the Sync 980 OTA then you're off the chart now :)

Currently at Sync 713. Not sure how my 2021 Job 2 got so far behind.

The instructions talk about checking the latest SYNC version in PTS. When I check it in PTS it shows blanks in the Last Recorded State - Software. Is that expected?

I had my APIM swapped out on 8/30/23, and it has a record of that in the Last Recorded State - Hardware

This bulletin has been updated again as of 7 Nov 23.

The latest revision of Sync 4 software for all Mach-E model years (as well as 22-23 Lightnings) is now the same for all: PU5T-14G682-EE / 4.0.23237_PRODUCT / 1.9.4 (AKA Sync 980 for NA vehicles).
