I'm not a fan of the back doors not having any type of a handle. I anticipate that people with rings and/or watches will scratch the paint while putting their hands into the door jam to get in the car.
I've wondered about that too. As well as there being any ragged/sharp edges that your fingers may touch just on the inside edge of the door where the sheet metal folds over.

It's also a spot that tends to collect dirt, and doesn't get washed off well from rain or even a car wash.

I'd rather they put the mini handles on the back too. Again, they're so well-hidden that they don't hamper the sleek look at all IMO.

The photos of the possibly (pre?) production models at the Mexico factory do seem to show a different door handle. Although, from the picture, I'm not sure it is more appealing

It is hard to tell exactly what that really is. It appears to be more of an upward curving lip handle rather than the sideways finger we saw initially. Here a few more pics to try and zoom in on...

Hard to see clearly in any of those, but it appear to be an upward curved triangular shape. Sort of like the fingers of an upward-turned cupped hand. I like that better than the initial "horizontal finger" design. First, it should be more sturdy. Second, if you have a drink or something in your hand, you should be able to easily stick just a pinky out to pull that handle out. Or it may even just hooking on your wrist or forearm to open it.

I like it. Wish the rear doors had them too.

I hardly think it detracts from the look of the Mach-E at all and I like that they don't recess or pop-up. One less mechanical part to fail.
amen.

Yeah I snipped this pic from the twitter picture:

I dunno, that look more like a reflection than anything else. In this image I don't see a triangle sticking up. that small light spot above the handle is the button:

That is weird. The passenger door looks like it has an up-curve handle while the driver door picture you posted looks more like the horizontal finger we see on the early prototypes. Maybe they're testing out both on the latest prototypes to see which they like better?

If they decided to go with an upward pointing door pull, they'd also need to move the open button upwards.
Depends on how far it curves upward. I don't think it's necessary from the pictures above. Doesn't look like a very high curve.

Here's the spacing from an earlier prototype. Since the handle appears to attach down a little on the painted ledge, it gives enough room for probably 1" of lip handle without interfering with the button. In fact, I could see it being a simple one-step (right-hand) motion, where you put a few fingers on the handle and press the button with your thumb.

Now that I compare the red car picture to the silver, that's a different handle too. The silver pic for the driver door still sticks up above the window ledge, where as on the red car it's pretty much level with it.

Oh well, I guess we'll see what they really give us soon enough. Fun to play detective though. ?
