I haven't used a radar detector in a long time, but even in the age of Waze, the app only tells you what it's been told already. It's not going to tell you about the speed trap that hasn't been reported yet. So, if you believe radar detectors can actually detect speed traps (*), then all the apps are doing is reducing the value proposition, not removing it.

(*) in 2021 this is a questionable statement
I absolutely get that someone has to be the first to report on Waze. It’s not a perfect system but it has saved me more times than I have run up against an unreported trap. You have to still be vigilant if you’re driving in a spirited fashion but I still question the need to buying a detector

I'm clearly with you on questioning the value (hence my footnote ?). Just in a different place than you on the full reason behind it. ?

Is a radar detector more effective than Waze these days? It is rare that I see an officer "waiting" that does not show up on the map well in advance of what I think a radar detector can do. Oh, and they are illegal in VA, so maybe I haven't given them much thought.

That is a key or you have unplug the cord at the detector.
I got to the mirror power (I’m assuming front radar). What colors did you tap?

Waze doesn't help with LEO's in motion in on-coming traffic. I have a V1 that is perma-muted because it doesn't have have the filters for blind spot radar etc. But I intend to add the Gen 2 version of the V1 (or get the Escort Red Line) in my MME once it arrives. I still find it useful, especially on more rural roads.

The more countermeasures you have, the better your odds. With that said, I do intend to be a more laid back driver in the MME for better battery efficiency but I have a lead foot so....... I'd rather have an extra warning than not I suppose.
