Here's something similar I was looking at just to have the option of the top of the detector, too. But it's a little more expensive and I may try the flat one you sent. hmmm

I have to start thinking about a solution for my uniden R7. The problem with some of these I've seen is that they seem to have such big suction cups that the suction cup takes up the space on the windshield where you ideally want the detector to be in the black section. I think I'm going to order a couple of these things on Amazon to try out.... Hopefully will have the car to try them in any day now

Yeah that's why I bought one but I'll try velcroing the bottom of the detector to the flat mount and have the suction cup below the black dots.

Testing with a speed-sign approx 200m away, direct line of site.

There is another speed-sign on my Monday route. I’ll pull over and take a separate measurement. Been seeing Ka consistently by CHP lately, not sure I want to pull over for that photo-op.
OK that's pretty close, what about at 3+ km range? Put it in another vehicle with a regular windshield and compare detection range.

For those who can't find a good mount solution. I found this on Amazon. You could mount the suction below (which is rare) and put the detector on top with 2 sided tape.

Ok I got this one and tried it tonight... Doesn't work. Adjusting the flat platform enough to hold the detector causes the suction cup mount to properly block the front of the radar detector. I may be able to either cut this like you did on your other thread, or drill new holes to get the mount closer up to the suction cup so the detector field of view will clear the suction cup.

Good luck! It's a struggle to get these things mounted so that it doesn't look hideous or block the detector. At least that mount was only $9 and you can return it.

Thanks for the link. While I'm not a fan of suction cups, this seems like the best solution for my R7. I know that I'll eventually go with a grill mount, but for now this is an acceptable solution and it works, which at this point is the most important thing.

Very nice. I bought this one too but can't get the right angle for my Escort. I'm going to try to flip the mount over.

Thanks for everyone's research on this. I also have an R7 and wanted to follow up to see how this solution has worked since your install last year. Has it stayed-put? Does it seem to be provide adequate warning to radar?

It works, but I don't have as much faith in the range as I used to have. I have noticed that the detector has started to sag a little bit as well and need to velcro the top to the headliner to straighten it as much as possible. The other concern is the rear facing detector. Since it's directly in front of the passenger seat now, detection could be blocked by the passenger. So far so good though. Plenty of alerts to tell me it's working and no surprises from police.

Just came across this thread. I have my Escort Max 360C mounted from the rear view mirror stem with a Blendmount mount. Here is a link to website in case you are interested:

BlendMount Radar Detector Mounts | Custom Aluminum Mounts
Blend mount WILL NOT work. Your window will block the signals because it's an IRR windshield. While the mount will mount the detector just fine, the detector will be rendered useless.

I actually designed a mount just for this with an explanation. See this post:

https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...rt-radar-mag-mount-specific.10559/post-401173

In that same thread above, on page one, I also provide a mod that you can use if you would rather modify your suction cup mount.

Here's some pictures from one member here @FarSide using the mount I designed on an F-Type:

I've been running mine for two weeks now and have not seen any appreciable decrease in range. Picked up a LEO running radar about 1-1/2 miles away from the time I received the initial signal. I was initially concerned about it so I have been tracking how far I travel once I receive an alert until I actually see the LEO. I understand the windshield is causing some interference but I haven't seen enough to be overly concerned about it. If it does eventually cause a problem, I will have a K-40 Electronics radar and laser system installed on Mach E like I have on my Mustang GT.

I get that. They reduce the effectiveness of the detector by up to 95%. My point is that recommending a mount (like blendmount) that resides outside of the black-dotted area is setting people up for failure. I speak from experience. I used a blendmount myself when I first got the car and I noticed huge degradation which is why I have so many posts on alternatives. Ultimately, it's up to you and your comfort with it knowing it is likely affected.

Here's some articles on it:
