Because this post has got a little attention and there's always a better way to do things. I designed and printed a custom mount. It is the exact width of the detector and provides a much larger surface area for the VHB tape, which means better adhesion. It can also be for those who don't have the tools or the desire to modify the stock mount. Includes the square hole on one side and the teeth (as best as I can get them) for gripping the detector while positioning.

To make it even better I have printed a tab that slips under the headliner and another tab that helps align it to the headliner. This makes for easy positioning. I have printed it in Polycarbonate as it's one of the strongest materials available. I also attempted with Carbon Fiber, ABS and Nylon and each had downsides.

If anyone is interested I would sell it for $25 (shipping included). I can't give these away since I'm printing with more costly materials on a commercial machine that will deliver the extreme heat (200°F Bed / 500°F Nozzle) needed.

When contacting me specify if you want the nut on the right (same as OEM) or left side. I think the left side has easier access when the detector is on the drivers side of the mirror. Also it's just the mount, no magnet included. Does come with tape already pre-applied.
