This happened a week ago over several days and has since returned to normal in our 22. The first time I noticed was after my wife was out late and I went into the garage after 11PM. I thought she moved the dial but she confirmed that she never touched it. Always set to Auto In our case we have had other Fords and various brands with Auto headlights and NEVER had this issue before the Mach E.

Which other vehicles? (Genuinely curious)

I’m not buying the idea that this is a problem that justifies a year+ to solve or that the headlight switch is as sophisticated as a computer or mobile phone operating system. I would more easily believe they’ve deprioritized the problem in favor of revenue producing streams.
Bronco and F150. Maybe more:

SSM 50842 - 2021-2022 Bronco - Headlamps Turn On
By Themselves When Vehicle Is Off - DTC B1533
Some 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles may exhibit a
condition of intermittent headlamp operation while the
vehicle is OFF and have diagnostic trouble code (DTC)
B1533stored in the body control module (BCM). This
may be due to the internal logic within the headlamp
switch. Switch and/or module replacement will not
resolve this condition. Headlamp operation is not
affected while the vehicle is ON. A new headlamp
switch is currently under development to correct this
condition. Let the customer know they can continue to
drive the vehicle and schedule a follow-up
appointment in October 2022, when parts are
expected to become available. Follow up with the
customer to confirm the appointment once OASIS is

Thanks, that's very interesting. The Bronco guys seem to think there's a fix coming in October. It would be nice if that's what we can expect as well.

Btw, is it confirmed that the headlights will turn off after 10 minutes when this condition occurs? So far I think I've been able to detect the problem either by the car sounds when the door is open, or by noticing the lights on from a distance (when I "think" the sound never came on), but before 10 minutes would pass.

I never timed it but they do turn off eventually.

Mine actually did it the first night I brought it home.

An October fix has been reported in this forum also, but I am not holding my breath.

I was thinking of trying the Explorer headlight switch I got with my liftgate switch. Not sure it would work with the MME (since it includes an integrated fog light switch) so I haven’t tried it. I don’t know if it not failing in a month’s time (if it even works) would be proof of anything since I don’t get the headlight overflow error often. I have only seen it three times since I took delivery. ?‍♂?

This problem is really starting to piss me off. It’s happened a couple times in the last few days and probably 6 or 7 times since I got the car a few months ago (22 Prem AWD ER). I don’t understand how/why Ford can’t have a fix for an unreliable headlight switch after a year. We’re talking about a headlight switch.
Hey there! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your headlight concern on my end.

Our 2020 Raptor does this upon occasion (it rarely gets driven these days), and ditto with the 2021 Ranger.

Thanks! I just sent this info via DM.
No point in opening up a service ticket (which is what happens when you DM Ford).

There is no fix……. Yet.

I read this thread this morning, and at lunch the headlights stayed on... maybe I need to stop reading trouble threads lol. I went into the grocery store and when I came back out (well over 10 mins), my headlights were on. I didn't turn them on. The headlight selector switch had no amber light on it at all. Had to rotate it for the light to come back on and then put it back on Auto (which it was always on).

I reported months ago, as have others via DM to Ford. I talked to a nice person and received a case number and told to call when it happened again. Next time it happened I called a couple of times and never received a return call. So have not bothered to call after the next ~20 times it has happened. My dealer knows nothing. Soooo, just waiting.

Anyone have this issue fixed? I reach out to Ford about my case by messaging on this site and they messaged back that my issue had been resolved! That was news to me.

Also, someone mentioned they see the headlight issue more often after a software update. That is exactly what I am experiencing after the 4.1.1 update last week. Not sure why there could be a relationship.
