'23 premium, Heated garage parked overnight, departure times always on in the winter. This morning on my way to work I had very little heat. This is also the first day this year that its been below 0F. I normally run the temp at 72-74 with the fan on 2-5, mix of defrost and floor. Today I left when departure time was ready. When I left the blower was on 5 and the heat button was on and I had defrost and floor selected. I ended up having to switch to all defrost almost immediately when I pulled on to the road as the windshield started fogging. A few miles in I turned the temp setting all the way to HI and also had to set the fan to 7 to keep the windshield from fogging. If I selected floor and defrost then the windshield would fog even with the blower on 7. I felt up near the defrost and it was blowing warm air but not hot air. It was cold enough that the rear side windows started to frost on the inside. We passed through a few areas where the temp got to -10F. at that point I had to but my hat back on and if I didnt have the heated steering wheel on I might have needed gloves. Are these cars just this bad in cold temps or do I have some other issue? I am almost positive that if I take it to the dealer that they wont find any issues as by the time I get there it wont be below 0 any more and it will probably blow heat just fine.

If max temp and max fan didn't make enough heat then I don't suspect that auto would help.
You'd be wrong. Max fan speed is actually cooling down the cabin...

"The HVAC settings are also important, do not manually increase fan speed. Use the AUTO function only, and set a moderate temperature 16-20ºC, do not set it higher than 20ºC. I recommend using 20ºC AUTO 1 as the setting. Low fan speeds retain more heat. Some cyclical window fog is normal, that will usually clear on its own within 30 seconds if you ignore it. If it's bad enough, then use the regular defrost button under the HVAC controls drawer until it's gone, then switch back to AUTO mode. Do not use MAX Defrost unless absolutely necessary, that can actually cool down the cabin due to the high fan speed."

Heated garage and using departure times? Why bother? Just seems like wasted energy to me.

But then again, my garage is not heated, and I don't use departure times at all - unless I know I'm driving far enough that day to need the extra range when I leave.

If i didn't run the fan on high then the windows all fogged up, next time it's below 0 I will give the auto a try.

A recent update to the HVAC should clear fogging within 30 seconds. If it doesn't, hit the max defrost button on the left of the dash, then put it back on Auto after it clears.

It sounds like you have no heat at all. It’s possible that either your heater has failed, or a coolant diverter valve is stuck. If you get nothing in max defrost, you definitely have something broken.

And I agree with the others who commented that using departure times isn’t needed in your case.

Thanks! Going on 4 years of ownership and either never knew or, more likely, forgot we have a max defrost physical button. Hopefully will remember next time I need it. Doesn’t happen often here.

Note that it turns on the rear defroster too, so after you hit AUTO to go back to regular heating, you need to turn off the rear window if it's not needed.

For the fogging issue. AC needs to be on to remove moisture from the air.

I only keep the garage "heated" to 45f. I also have a 30 mile drive to work.
