My wife leaves her just picked garden vegetables in the garage and is complaining they rot due to the heat of charging. They are too big or too many to put into the refrigerator. The cord will reach outside, but I don't want to damage the cord when the door shuts. At the charge port it's 106 degrees. Any idea if I reduce the kw/h if that would help? Lower temp but longer time. The closest DCFC is about 14 miles each way.

If you drop the charge rate down it will produce less heat. You can try that and see.

A lower charge rate produces less heat per unit time, but the number of BTUs rejected for a given charge should be roughly the same since charging at a lower rate takes proportionally longer.

Do you have any windows in your garage? Could you put in some kind of fan or ventilation system to move the hot air out of the garage?

Did you have this issue before the MME? I would think an ICE car parked in the garage would give off a lot more heat from the engine/exhaust cooling off.

Agree. My garage is much cooler now with only EVs, even with the heat from charging.

While there is heat involved w/ L1 charging w/ MME (less w/ Bolt), there is not enough heat produced to affect garage temperature.
Would be nice in winter. Alas no such result.

Maybe open garage door a bit while charging?

I agree about the BTUs, but the lower charge rate could be beneficial in this case. If the garage isn't super insulated, I imagine it can dissipate that extra heat before it gets too high and keep overall garage temps down.

I agree, but my wife blames the MME. She says "Not my car!"

If I use only my MME during the day, multiple trips, the garage stays cool, even during charging. If I use my ICE SUV for only ONE trip, the garage heats up a LOT. An ICE engine block will create and release a lot more heat than the MME charging. It’s the ICE’s fault ;)

Put the veggies indoors?

Honestly I would be surprised if charging put out enough heat to move the temp in the garage much.

I do know that it’s way less heat than parking a ICE that is fully warmed up.
