Heyo, I'm staying at an AirBNB and there is a Tesla Wall Connector (appears to be a Gen 1, so no app connectivity) with an adapter. I tried charging it last night and just kept getting fault after fault (restarting the car inbetween faults). Tesla shows nothing, solid green which means it is ready to charge.

I relented and finally contacted the host. She said she had no trouble using it earlier in the day for her Tesla so we thought maybe the adapter was busted (the current one was pretty gnarly). A new one was ordered and delivered today. Tried it again and fault, fault, fault.

What can I do? She said she's had no trouble with other EVs using it, one of the listing photos even has an Ioniq using it.

I stopped by my house and my Ford charger worked fine this morning. At work, the Level 2 charger here worked fine, but they're always taken and cost 3 arms.

Any help please? Do I need to clear DTCs (which would be weird since I can charge elsewhere)? I'm fully up-to-date in FDRS, apart from the newest power train updates released this weekend (PCM, ABS, SOBDMC, and BECM).

Post the brand/specs on the adapter you are using.

I thought with the Tesla Tap, the recommended procedure was to connect the adapter and then wait something like ~60 seconds for the adapter to initialize before connecting to the vehicle.

I get faults sometimes after we lose power. Flipping the breaker on the tesla charger fixes it

Wow, these have sure come down in price since Tesla Tap & Lectron were the only game in town. Probably costs about what it should now.
Haha, I haven't look in years since I bought my car. I thought the same thing when I went to go find it on Amazon for ya! Crazy.

I might be wrong, but I thought I read that Gen2 Tesla AC chargers were OK but the older ones weren’t. ?‍♂?

Gen 3 you can disable non-Tesla charging, so that might be it. The older ones take 30 seconds to enter j1772 mode after connecting.

This is my plug in flow: connect adapter to Tesla connector - plug into car - car locks it into place with a click right away - 1 to 2 seconds later goes blue and then right away faults to red. It then just stays faulted. Am I supposed to leave it in longer on red?

Try this flow. Connect adapter to Tesla connector - wait at least 30 seconds ( for them to get to know each other) - plug into car. This worked for me on one of my road trips. Good luck!

Yes, at least 30 seconds. The adapters you have don’t have a resistor so you have to wait for the 30 second connection timeout after plugging in to the car before it will switch modes. If that doesn’t work, turn the car on after it’s been connected >30 seconds.

To clarify if 30 seconds doesn't work, leave car plugged in, turn car on, engine off (obviously can't fully turn it on with it plugged in, but no brake pedal, right)?

Doesn’t really matter ACC/START, as long as the action occurs more than 30 seconds after the vehicle is connected.

You can turn it on, just not shift out of “P”.

Just remember that you often get what you pay for. Cheap price often means cheap quality. You do what you want but I'm not running 48A 240V continuously through a non-tested, no name adapter plugged into my EV for 12 hours.
