I seem to have a compatibility issue between my 2023 Mach-E and my Tesla J1772 Wall Connector (charger). When initially connected the charger proceeds to the communications state as indicated on its LEDs, then the Mach-E blinks orange on its charge port indicating a fault. When I disconnect and reconnect the charger, the Mach-E charge port lights go out, but the car charges fine. I can follow the progress on my FordPass app. This happens consistently every time.

This happens on both of my Mach-Es, both 2023 Premium models purchased in the last 15 days. The cars have no charging faults with other J1772 chargers.

Are there known related issues? On reddit r/MachE some folks said their Tesla J1772 Wall Connectors work flawlessly, so I'm thinking it's an issue with my Tesla J1772 Wall Connector -- it's new and only been used with these two Mach-Es.

Tesla support is balking, and wants me to do two things: test on another Tesla J1772 Wall Connector, and contact Ford to see if there's an issue with my cars. So, I'm reaching out to this group. I've also written to @Ford on Twitter. I know of no other Tesla J1772 Wall Connector installed locally (by any chance does anyone here have one in the Manchester, NH area?). Does anyone know of compatibility issues with recent Mach-Es and Tesla J1772 Wall Connectors?

what is the default current output setting for the Tesla J1772 Wall Connectors ?
Is it settable/changeable to 32a, or 36a ?

I am thinking that the 'negotiation' for charge current may be the issue.

Yes, you can change the amperage in the settings.

There’s no negotiation for charge current. The EVSE sets the pilot duty cycle and the vehicle has to follow that.

The Wall Connector is set for a 60A limit, which is the size of the breaker on its dedicated circuit, and it should be delivering 48A to the car, which aligns with the 11 kW I see reported on the FordPass app.

well..... I would try setting the wall connector Max to 48 amp since you know that is the most the mme will accept, that may eliminate some problem with the negotiated maximum current

The max output will be 48A when set up for a 60A branch circuit; from the Tesla J1772 Wall Connector manual:

This is an old thread, but I do have an update... since a software update (23.8.2) from Tesla was pushed to the Wall Connector in mid-November, it seems to be working just fine with my Mach-Es. Hopefully this was an intentional fix, and not a fluke side effect of some other software change. The software updates from Tesla are not announced and the release notes were not specific.

Similar issue here, not sure if there is a solution or not. I'm going to check for dtc"s when I get home, great idea Maquis. I'm using a level 2 240V 80A Tesla wall mounted charger with an apater, first 3 week's of ownership of the MME no issues, plug it up lights rotate, turn blue and charge. After updating a long list of modules in FDRS i've been getting "charge faults" every since. I was able to flip a breaker or reset the infotainment for it to work again. But here lately nothing works. I have ordered and tried 3 different types of adapters but same issue. Any ideas or a specific DTC I should look for. No option to change or set the amperage or voltage on my Tesla charger.

Did you change the dip switch settings inside the EVSE to enable J1772 compatibility mode?

I think it's dip switch #2 set to OFF. Undocumented feature on later models.

Well no joy, my specific model 1050067-11-H. Only as dip switches to set the operating current.
No luck as for as setting it to J1772.

Set DIP switch #2 to down/off and recycle the breaker. It's undocumented like I said.
