The wife was complaining that the rear hatch door stopped working and sure enough I found her wallet stuck in the door. When I try to open the door I can hear the unlock mechanism trying to work but it won’t open. Is there any way to access the latch from the inside by removing interior panels?

I’ve already tried pressing/pulling on the door while trying to open it. My other thought would be try to crowbar it slightly open from the inside while pulling out the wallet, but that may damage the door. Any ideas are appreciated!

If you are going to search for a solution , Ford calls it a “Liftgate”! All I could find was ,make sure it is in Park and 12volt battery may be low.
I always keep wood wedges in my tool box , you could use a wedge to get the wallet out and then pull the wedge out. A crow bar may do some damage!

Update: crowbar with a towel over it and some dish soap got it out, but liftgate still does not unlatch. There must be some damage and an inevitable trip to the dealer.

Try starting the car and drive it back and forth a little then turn it off then try opening It may reset itself.

No go. Tried that and all the usual suspects like entering and exiting valet mode, hard reset, key fob, inside car, etc. I can hear the unlatching mechanism trying to do its job but nothing happens. I can’t imagine a wallet there could really cause the door to damage itself when auto closing. Also what if that was my kids finger, aren’t these things supposed to stop upon feeling pressure.

redranger04g, I know you have this solved but I posted this awhile back how to manually open the liftgate from the inside.

Thanks Mark. I was able to find this hatch and the release button, but even pressing the button and trying to push the liftgate up won’t budge the dang thing. There’s a torx bolt there which I’m assuming will get me more access, but I’m just going to take it in and hope warranty covers it.

Try pushing the lift gate down instead of up. It's possible the latch is jammed against the clasp requiring too much force for the motor to release. Pushing down might reduce the force enough for the motor to release the latch.

'Emergency lift gate manual release.
I'm hoping I'm not too late. I just tore the covers off mine to fix loose tail lights.
