Backed up without closing the charging port door, got taught, and the outer painted panel popped off. I was able to reattach the panel back on, the charging port is working, but now the door does not stay closed. (I know, it never had a satisfactory click to begin with.) Looking for damage, I'm ashamed to say I've never paid a lot of attention, so it's hard to tell what are broken. As far as I can tell, the hole next to the plug is missing something (red circle), and there's a piece broken off under the pony logo on the door (green circle). Am I correct, or missing anything? I will bring it to Ford dealer, but want to know what the problem is, if its safe to drive, and whether it's an easy fix. I know people has reported varying experience with warranty, but I will take my chances

From what I have read, Ford does not sell that part. The solution is to buy a BMW part that fits and works.

I'm sure someone will pop in here and clarify the part and the fix.

You might want to glance at your dashboard in the future, because with that door open, you had a big orange warning message showing...

As to driving, get some painter's tape, close the door, and tape it shut...

And you might want to read that thread entirely, and some other ones. Most found the female part sitting on the fender liner inside...

Lol, let's just say I have been scolded for not designing the car according to another operator's preference.

I realized after further inspection the locking pin has two parts, and I have now removed both exposed pieces. Does the part from BMW include both male and female pieces? Do they just snap/twist into their respective holes? But I still need the latch receiver inside the fender?

P.S. Is the rectangle hole under the pony functionally important?

The rectangle "hole" should not be a hole. There's a tab that's broken off in there. The tab locks the outer cover (or skin) onto the door hinge. The skin slides on and off of the hinge freely if that tab is not present. You could replace the hinge at what would likely be an expensive cost (hinge plus labor), or you could devise some other method of retaining the skin. 🤔🐩

Every response is making me think harder about duct tape and velcro.
