Yeah, trying to go after the truck company seems like a waste of time. Be surprised if that accomplishes anything. Hard to say for sure if it's really their rock anyway vs just a random one on the road that a tire picked up. We get that a lot around here. Many trucks have a sign on the back saying "Stay 50 (or 100/200) feet back - not responsible for windshield damage". Doesn't mean anything legally, but good advice to follow regardless. I've learned to back off big trucks because of all the rocks around here.Just call your insurance, get an appt at a local place and get it repaired. Takes an hour out of your life, it’s inevitable and won’t be your last. The dump truck company will laugh you off the phone.
I've got two repaired starbursts on my windshield right now. Local windshield places (not Safelite, who quoted $100+) charged $45 to do the repair. I also had one crack the windshield in 2021 before I could get it repaired, and had to replace the windshield ($1000+).
