I recently ordered a Mach-E from the website and for my chosen dealer, it explicitly stated that there was no markup over MSRP.

Yet, when I called the manager to confirm my order, he mentioned that they were selling cars at a $2,000 markup over MSRP.

I argue that it's an insidious markup and contradicts the Ford website. What's the best solution here? I don't want to pay above MSRP, especially for a car that won't arrive for 3-6 months.

Either cancel and reorder with another dealer after confirming they do not charge ADM (Additional Dealer Markup) or see if Mike Levine on Twitter will do anything for you (he's an exec at Ford who said for people to DM him if they're getting hit with ADM)

Find another dealer to work with. Make contact to the dealer before doing the online part.

Another somewhat related question. New York state is offering a point-of-sale rebate for EVs. The policy changes after June 30th so my Mach-E purchase will only be eligible for $500, rather than $2,000. Does the amount you receive depend on the date you reserved (and put the deposit on) the car or the date of delivery? This will be the difference of $1,500 so I'm hoping that I'm locked into the $2,000.

Not sure about New York, but in California it’s the date you sign, pay for, and take delivery of the car.

I also agree that I’m sure the rebate would be based on when you actually sign the paperwork for the car, which would be when you take delivery.

In California, dealerships had to submit paperwork to the state to register for the equivalent program. I would check to see if this also is a requirement in New York, because in California, the program was so new, I was the one who alerted my dealer about it’s existence and they were very good to immediately sign up. But some dealerships inexplicably refused to participate, from what I read on here, so probably a good idea to check and make sure everything is squared away with your new dealership so you don’t get another unpleasant surprise.

Thanks for all the help :)

buying a car should be far more transparent and straightforward than it is. I guess that's why Tesla cut out dealerships?
