Hit 100,000 MILES

Yes, I was driving home and the car started to try and stop itself while driving. That’s when all of the lights started firing. I just thought the HBJVB needed to be replaced again since I’ve only had one in 103,000 miles. Once it was taken in, I got an alert from the dealership saying a $4100 part needed to be approved. I just figured it was a mistake but it is not.

I am wondering. Have you had to replace or has anyone had to replace the front electric drive assembly? I currently have 103,000 miles on my Mach-E 2021 Premium Ext Range and the cost to replace is $4100.00.

I did, at about 47k miles. Its cooling fluids penetrated across its internal seals. Same IPC alerts. AWD Extended battery. Replaced under warranty in November 2023.

Car still works reliably

Still always get a charge on the road

Not yet died of range anxiety

Neither battery or any of the arrays spontaneously combusted without warning

Neither entire battery or any of the separate arrays have died

I believe I read your report, you got the rear oil flushed at your expense right? My dilemma is, my car is just outside the Powertrain warranty and Ford is not willing to cover anything because of that. I’m worried about the rear failing as well.

I wouldn’t worry too much.

It doesn’t follow that the rear will fail because the front failed, they are entirely independent of one another.

Is it whining or anything?

Why not have the oil changed, save a sample, have it analysed along with sample of new oil for comparison to see if there’s a high level of iron, aluminium or phosphor bronze or anything in there which might be symptomatic of abnormal gear, bearing or bush wear?

Mine’s due for its 3rd service when it’s nearer 80,000 miles in a few weeks when I aim to have my transmission oil changed early and have it analysed.

True. Added to that fact is that the rear is a different design than the front in the AWD models other than the GT/GT-PE. This would mean that the rear and front motor assemblies have different strong and weak points. ??

Brittany, yes that was me. I guess I was lucky that the front one failed when it did... sorry about yours.

I actually had a look at the Ford Corporate bill for this warranty replacement of the front motor. From memory, parts were about $3,000+ and labor was another 2 grand or so... a total of about $5,800. Just so you have the price range...

It's near meaningless, because no one is paying for a Mach-E battery for many, many years. The cost THEN would be what matters.

Hopefully that will be the case. There are some Mach-Es above 100k miles now and out of warranty, and that number will only grow. Hopefully the battery pack degrades slowly and predictably and doesn't suffer from any catastrophic failures (unlike, say, GM or some early Tesla models.)
