One thing I've noticed in some posts is a fascination with the app showing the wrong address. We recently visited our son, and after I charged I went to save the location. It showed us at an address on the adjacent street. But, the important thing was that it showed us there. Therefore, I saved it as "Son's House", and every time we pulled in while there it showed us there, and applied the settings. The fact that he lives at 52 Elm St and it showed us at 34 Birch St is a "who cares" situation.

Of course for many it shows the car "not home", and they can't get the location to match up. Just pointing out that for some it does, but the wrong address is meaningless.
I've had this. MME would be home at 654 Bleeker St and FP would say it was at 674 Bleeker St, but it would still go by my charging preferences for 654.

I just completed a app refresh and both the vehicle location and my home address matched!

I left the app running and plugged my charger into the car for the night. .... And it started charging right away, ignoring my preferred start time. UGH!! (Yes, "Use Preferred Time settings" was selected)
It's pretty rare, but I've also have had that happen too.

Do you have departure times set up too?

When plugged in, my car starts charging immediately and ignores my preferred charge times.

I guess the key word here is PREFERRED charging time. I only want to charge during the cheaper off-peak hours and up to an 85% charge limit.

So is the intended charging action to:
  • Always charge to the charge limit even if it means charging outside of the preferred charge times? (Charge Limit overrides Preferred Charging Times)
  • And can I switch it to only follow the preferred charging times, but never charge greater than the set charging limit. (Preferred Charging Times overrides Charge Limit)

I believe early on, it was discussed that the SOC goal and departure time would override the preferred charging time. The idea being, that if you set a departure time of 8:00am and the car needs to start charging outside of your preferred times to meet your SOC goal, it will do what it can to meet the goal by your departure time. But I don't recall if that was confirmed or debunked. It's strange though if you only have a departure time set for one day...it shouldn't effect the other days.

I'm curious, can you show a screen shot of your preferred charging times?

What does it look like when you click on 'Set my own time'?

When i first got mine, FP didn't have my provider's plan so I just had to manually do it. So mine looks like this.

I've tried it both ways. I set my own time, and now tried using the recommended time from my electric company. Same results.

I'm only using the supplied mobile charger that came with the car plugged into a 110v outlet. So its not going to charge too fast ( 3 miles per hour) and is never reaching the 85% charge limit during the preferred charge times. That's why I think it starts charging right away because it knows it can't reach the charge limit within the preferred charge time.

Waiting for the electrician to come and upgrade my garage to 240v and a faster charger.

I'm guess my solution is to get rid of the charge limit setting.

I guess one of us should have asked if it was L2 (240v) charging to begin with...but that's my guess for what the issue is.

And you shouldn't need a faster charger once you get the outlet, your mobile charger should have come with a 110v plug and a 240v plug that you can swap at the top of the charger.

I want charging to only charge during off-peak hours. Why should the charge limit override that! Seems wrong to me and should be changed! The app already has a charge to 100% button if someone wanted to override the preferred time to charge setting.

Aha, it's ignoring your charge times because you're using L1 which charges slow as balls. When you set preferred charge times, it prioritizes getting your car charged up to your set target level and will charge outside of scheduled times if neccasry to accomplish that. Essentially you've told it "Avoid charging between 8AM and 9PM if possible, but do whatever's necessary to reach 85% by 8AM the next morning". Since 11 hours isn't nearly enough time on L1, it starts charging immediately.

It's designed around the mentality of "I need X% to get to work each day" so that you always leave with enough charge.

On L1 you should just let it charge 24/7 because it's so slow. You're not really going to be running up very much peak charges. So I think you need to not worry about charging times until you get your Level 2 installed.

Thanks Guys!

It wasn't working the way I expected. I think the preferred charge times should be an absolute charging window. They could let you override the charging window and create a button or something. But I don't like the way its working now.

I came to the same conclusion and will wait until I get my Level 2 charging installed next week. At least now I think I know whats happening and can work around it.
