Sorry if this is repetitive. I have tried to read as much as I can in regards to the HVBJB issues on the Mach E. Facebook groups, this forum, recall info. A lot of good posts but I can’t find anywhere if ford has officially fixed this issue. I’ve seen some with 2024s that have had the issue so I guess not. The recall that covered the 21/22 models, was it just a software issue as a bandaid or at some point has ford been able to find a permanent fix? I have a 24 extended range so I feel like I should still be weary of this happening. I haven’t seen any new TSBs or recalls from ford on this for awhile but in one of the facebook groups some people with 24s have said they had the issue. Did ford just release an over the air update a couple years ago and hold their breath on this issue?

Rumor: The battery compartment in the first generation Mach-E may not have an adequately large enough space in which to install a significantly larger and significantly more robust junction box. Thus all model years may experience failure until a redesign in a next generation model.

Ford released an OTA to more closely monitor the HVBJB and, if degredation is sensed, to limit power. This, in theory, should prevent complete failure. Any HVBJB that has failed, or degraded enough to require replacement, has been replaced under recall/warranty. The latest part is, I believe, the 5th generation of the part. Is it finally beefy enough to end the failures…. Only time will tell. But I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Interesting. Do you know how long the newest gen part has been in circulation?

No. Specific part numbers are hard to track. I just got my 2nd new HVBJB in January (on my 2021 GT-PE, so the MOST at risk version). Even I don’t know which gen part was installed. But if I kill this one, I’ll just get another. My mechanic has gotten pretty efficient at changing them.

Have you had to get the car towed each time this fails or are you still able to drive it to the dealer?

For most it’s still drivable. I’m driving mine this way right now until my service appointment next week. When it happened the first time, they gave it back to me for two weeks until the part came in.

I’m not conversant on the other trims, but the current GT part is the 3rd generation. The second generation part was released in late May of 2022. The third generation part was released in late November of 2023. The 3rd generation part number for the GT is LK9Z-10C666-C. Check your warranty paperwork for the part number that was installed in your car. My 2021 got the second generation part (LK9Z-10C666-BRM “RM” for remanufactured, so likely an upgraded 1st generation part). ??

Mine was towed both times. Been going much better since the newer (but older now) replacement.

My car has remained drivable both times. I drove it pending the repair. Though it has NOT been a muscle car during those times.

Happened to me for the second time yesterday. Kept driving the car normally for the day. I just kept it at 65 on the way home and was gentle on acceleration. Though not really necessary, I backed into my garage. Figured better safe than sorry. No difference in power. I'm thinking the alert is early detection.

If you didn’t notice any difference in power it’s more likely a glitch. It will probably be normal next time you start. I’ve had a phantom SVS a couple times. If it didn’t come with any warnings in FordPass, it’s probably a computer error as opposed to a HVBJB error.

Oh I got Ford Pass warnings. Two of them.

Unless there is another problem glitching the performance limiter, the car having sensed the HVBJB as the problem should limit the car’s power to 60%. We can see this in the GT by the jail bars we see. If you have an OBD-2 reader, use it to pull your Diagnostic Test Codes (DTCs). That will tell you what the car is seeing as wrong. It may or may not be the HVBJB. If you do not have a reader to pull the DTCs with, ask someone on the FDRS thread to pull them for you. ??
