So I’ve been very lucky to own my Mach-E for 10 months, and I think I know the car pretty well inside and out… that was until yesterday.

I opened the passenger side door (RHD car so that’s the driver’s side to the rest of the world!) and in the sunlight caught sight of two wires I have never noticed. There as bright as day was twisted pair of yellow and black wires coming out from the soundproofing padding near the bottom of the front wheel arch. They run out in the open past the door hinge and then disappear into the side trim of the main chassis that covers the battery area behind the door panel.

Here’s a pic - imagine you opened your door and peered through the crack in the door opening at the bottom….

I checked the other side and it’s the same. I don’t recall ever seeing them before.

My questions are:
1) Does anyone else have these on either of both sides?
2) What are they for?
3) Why the hell put such lightweight wiring in an open exposed area?

I posted the same questions in a UK Mach-E WhatsApp chat yesterday and got lots of entertaining answers about bomb disposal etc, but nobody seemed to be able to come up with anything factual.

squirrel bait!

bet it goes to the mirror adjustment since Ford probably missed designing it into the 'driver side' armrest for you wankers.

That is odd to have those 2 wires sticking out like that. I am thinking it may have fallen off a rubber boot/grommet somewhere between the side panel and the door & part of the right speakers? If you are close to a stereo shop or auto shop, they can check for polarity or popping sound if it's related to your sound system. I doubt they are to power something unless you have something that is malfunctioning?

My 2 cents from the USA

All cents welcome

What also makes me curious is the blue marker dot on both the wires and the body work. This makes me believe that it’s not become loose and it maybe some kind of retro fit. Plus it’s on both sides of the car.

The untrusting devil on my shoulder is saying it wasn’t there before my car went to the dealership for the Panoramic Roof Recall works. Did they slice something when removing the A pillar covers and retro fit another cable via another route? I’m guessing by the answers so far that nobody else has this cable showing?

I refer to my original three questions…. ?
  1. Yes: I only checked the passenger side
  2. Still think they are network wires--likely CAN. If they are there is probably a small module in each door to handle the switches and window up/down
  3. Got me

The standard for CAN wiring is yellow and green.

The blue dot makes it appear that the wire was glued in place and has broken free. No matter what it seems like that was not correct as I can not imagine having that fine of wire basically exposed to potential damage.

Ah now we know a bit more with your recall.....If you didn't see it before the Dealership touched it then what else can it be? Ask them for a list of things they did to rectify your Pan Roof recall......

Another 2 cents, now I am near a Nickel....LOL

I have them too, and mine is yet to go in for the roof/screen recall so it can't be that. Maybe they had to retro fit something in Mexico which might explain why ours spent 3 months in the factory carpark before being put on a ship or 2 months in Antwerp having "QC" checks
