I’ve experienced this myself but only in situations with hills (or even the slightest incline). I don’t think the car is really going in reverse though. It’s just that when you put your foot on the accelerator pedal it goes into a “releasing the clutch” state where potentially gravity is still overpowering the forward torque you are applying to the accelerator.
No, that's a completely different issue.

What we're talking about here is the car rolling uphill, when the gear indicator shows the car is set to drive (or reverse) downhill. Gravity obviously will not overpower the car to pull it up the hill. :)

The situation you are describing is perfectly normal for any kind of car.

Hard to tell due to the lack of details given but it sounds like some people are saying the same as you, and others may just be feeling gravity along with auto hold releasing.

Either way, take a video next time do Ford can address it. Definitely a dangerous situation if it happens as you described.

Your childlike faith in the power of video is very touching.

"The technician was unable to reproduce the issue. Case closed."

"But what about my video?"

"Yes, we all enjoyed your nice video. The technician was unable to reproduce the issue. Case closed."

My experience with multiple cars and multiple dealership service centers has been different.

You can try with video proof, or no proof, but it’s your call I guess.

The proximity sensors will apply brakes for you in reverse, but it will never change direction on you. I can’t even imagine a way the car would do that in a failure mode.
This feature saved me yesterday! I was backing out of a spot, watching the camera, looked like I had plenty of room, suddenly the vehicle hard stopped. Looking at the camera still looked like I had space, but the vehicle behind me was right there (objects in camera may be closer than they appear!), anyway, great feature, works great! ?

I had a similar issue a few weeks ago. I was in drive and heading down a relatively steep (maybe 30 deg.) driveway. While the car was in drive the rear view camera came on and when I took my foot off the brake pedal the car started to slowly creep in reverse. Fortunately I noticed, but I assume that if I had hit the accelerator to move into traffic, I would have shot backwards into the car behind me. I double checked that both the dash and center gear selector were in D. I turned it to P and then back to D and the issue resolved. But @Ford Motor Company this is an unacceptable safety hazard and needs to be fixed ASAP.
Hey there! Can you please send me a DM with your VIN and dealer name/location so I can look into these gear shift concerns for you? I'd be happy to see what I can do to assist!

I was just reporting the event as I experienced it. The next comment says it does happen? I am hoping it is a one time event.

Same thing happen to me today. I was the passenger, my wife was driving She put vehicle in reverse to back out of shopping center spot. No mistaking that it was in drive, for the cross vehicle alert went off. Vehicle passed, she tapped the accelerator and it lurched forward. She jabbed the brake, turned the transmission selector back into park, again put it in reverse and everything was normal Definitely something is happening

Happened to me too this past weekend, on level ground. Not something we've seen it before (we've had the car 8 months).

By the time it happened, and I convinced myself it wasn't possible, and then it happened again, I only had a few inches of room in front of the car parked behind me, so I couldn't experiment. I turned the power off/on and then was able to drive forward normally.

Edit: I just realized what I experienced was the opposite of this thread title; I was trying to go forward but the car was reversing.

Then people need to do what I do whenever my car acts odd.

Take a video, then take the car to the dealership.

Nearly impossible to get anything fixed without proof. And everyone has a video camera (phone) on their person at all times.

It’s like dozens of people claiming to see the same UFO and no one thinks to film it?
Doesn't matter what you bring to a dealer, they're like govt agencies "we investigated the car and found nothing wrong"

As for UFOs, there's plenty of footage. One aspect common with them is that if they're playing with what we refer to as 'constants', they're warping the fabric of spacetime which by nature causes visual distortions. We'll know more once we wrap up the latest war spending so we can start another one. Just imagine how much $$$ will be spent under the guise of planetary defense. Never mind the fact that if advanced species are hanging around from who knows where, our odds of matching them technologically is impossible with all of the world's money combined, but hey, it won't stop them from burning trillions trying. We'll simply spend our way into prosperity!

Some more anecdotal evidence …

I thought she must have been mistaken (until I read this thread) when my wife said the car started up in reverse. Said it happened twice. She turns the car on and when reaching down to shift out of ”Park,” she noticed it was already in “Reverse.” I haven’t seen it myself.

Maybe it’s like Bigfoot then?

Either way……. Film it!

And like I said before, a good dealer service center will use your video as evidence. They did for me on multiple vehicles.

Also saves you tons of time having to describe the problem and them trying to recreate it.

For my Mach E, I had multiple bugs. Showed them the video and they updated all my modules.

ONE TIME, I had the non-responsive touch screen error.

I video taped it. They ordered a new touch screen for me without question (Because there was a service bulletin that said to). It was backordered for months.

They called me months later to replace it but I declined because it never happened again.

They never “recreated” the unresponsive screen. They just looked at my video. I also never pushed nor even asked for a screen replacement.

Bottom line? Yeah, a video can be all the evidence you need.

Here was part of the video-

I had parked in a spot with enough space behind me but there was a small post near the side walk. Some one parked too close in front of me but apparently because of the pole, the car would not reverse. I put the car in reverse and it went forward. Unfortunately I didn't have enough space to try to resolve the problem without hitting the other vehicle. Although I was stuck, fortunately the other driver returned and I was able to pull out forward.
Hey there. I can look into your Mach-E’s concerns on my end if you’d like. Will you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership info?
