I witnessed a crash. Did my forward looking camera record it?

I was driving south on a divided highway yesterday when a car ahead of me turned left and an oncoming motorcycle hit the car. The cyclist was killed. I could see it happen as if in slow motion. Motorcycle parts flew by me. My question is: Did my speed recognition camera or other forward looking camera capture this and if so it is available to law enforcement?

No. There’s no mechanism to store or retrieve any of the vehicle camera’s image data on Ford vehicles. The images are displayed or processed locally and then are gone.

In car camera wont record video. That is why I got a mini dash connected to mirror using a dongar adapter. The accident seems like a typical left turn without yield to incoming traffic. Your witness statement should be enough to help them close the case. Very unfortunate for the motorcyclist that were killed.

Well, not quite. While the front camera isn't capturing anything, the BlueCruise cameras are recording in certain situations. They are recording the DRIVER though.

Note this from the manual:

BlueCruise Data (If Equipped)

If BlueCruise is active in certain crash or near crash-like situations, such as an airbag deployment or hitting a road obstacle, the system may record driver attentiveness, based on the direction of eyes and duration, and photographs of the driver seat area. Note: No data is recorded under normal driving conditions.

Good point, my comment should be amended to the external vehicle cameras.

Recent articles suggest that Android Auto might soon allow the use of the onboard cameras as a pseudo-dashcam. I don't know if they solved the storage issue, but it would be a cool feature if well-implemented on the Mach-E. RickMachE probably has a better idea if it's worth being excited about. Might just be false hope.

No, but you should offer your information as a witness to the accident and make a sworn statement if requested. It may not be necessary if the police are very sure what happened.

I spoke to dispatch on the 911 call (Busy road, they had many calls on it). I gave all my contact information, she said to expect a follow up call at some point. It will be obvious to law enforcement what happed so they may not call me which is fine but I wondered if I might have video from the front facing cameras. Apparently not although there is this (A bit ambiguous) from the ford.com site.

exactly...just because WE do not have access to it does not mean it is not available to others...especially Ford..

In other words, they only set the system up to record if it can be used by Ford against its customers in court.

This reads to me like it records the data points, not the video itself. So it would have a flag that you were not looking at the road with a timestamp and then probably another when you were back to paying attention.
