I wrote a letter to Ford...and they actually wrote back!

Shortly after I joined this forum, I discovered you are my people! I’ve learned SO MUCH and look forward to a long and happy relationship here.

This forum is where I learned that the foot-kick-to-open liftgate feature (which I really, really had wanted and expected) had been discontinued about halfway through 2023, yet the liftgate label still shows it on my 2024. Well now, I’m a retired aerospace Quality Engineer and, after learning this, I recognized that this obsolete feature had a simple-to-fix solution and should never have left the factory with that label. So of course I wrote a letter to Ford expressing (1) my displeasure at their ‘mistake’, and (2) their need for corrective action.

I did not expect a response. But I got one, or rather two. They were duplicates with the same verbiage, word for word, same date, same ‘signature’. And, sadly, their response was nothing more than corporate rhetoric, i.e. the brush off. ‘Thanks for sharing, now run along little girl.’ Not even a gold star. <sigh>

Attached are my original letter to Ford, and their response(s). Enjoy. And don’t expect any improvement from Ford any time soon.

Ford must have changed the label in the half-year updates. My 2024 was manufactured in September (making it a Job 2 car) and the label on it just says how to adjust the height. My 2021 had the full Kick to Open stuff cast into the bezel for the secondary liftgate switch (which I have since added to my 2024). ??

I am happy that Ford wrote you back, even if it was just to say "run along little girl." Ford doesn't take me seriouly at all. Perhaps because I'm a Pontiac canine. Or perhaps it's just because I'm a canine. Or maybe because I'm short. ??

When I first got my MME I stood there kicking and kicking and kicking under the car. I had an Escape that I traded in and knew how to activate the lift gate.

It wasn’t until I came here that I learned of the elimination of the feature.

Ford doesn’t care about what I have to say because I’m just Pugnacious

I'm confused. My 2021 MME has the handsfree liftgate and I use it quite often. Now I hear from you guys that the 2025 model doesn't have this feature? When I look through the (Dutch) pricelist of the 2025 model, it shows that every version, except the basic Select, has a handsfree liftgate. And you can add the handsfree feature to the Select through an options pack. Is this a US / EU thing?

Yes, Ford decontented the hands-free liftgate from the North American cars. Not sure about the second liftgate button but I think that was decontented world-wide (I am likely wrong on that but it won’t be the first time my paw was in my mouth). ??

Wow! An actual letter, through the actual postal system possibly? How very quaint? Are you my mother by any chance ????

If it’s any consolation, I have the kickyopenboot thing which doesn’t seem to work very well now.

However, I looked to replace my job 1 ‘21 Stang for a new one of same spec at end of last year and it was the discontinuation of this feature and others which lost them a cash sale of a new car??‍

Glad you like yours otherwise, mine’s now got 116,500miles and I’ve loved every mile I have driven it.
