If I order now, when will my build date be?

Naturally it isn't possible answer for sure, but is there a general feeling right now for how long we are looking at from an order of an ER AWD Premium placed in the last weeks of 2020 to build and shipment?

In my case, I actually do not want a new car until March or April 2021, but I'm wondering if I should plan on reserving soon to make sure that happens.

I can be a point of reference for you. I ordered on September 24, 2020 (Premium AWD, ER), and I don't have a build date yet. I do see a few people who ordered in early October that have build dates in early March 2021 (use the link below to go to the thread that is tracking that information):

(2) Submitted Orders # Tracking List and Stats [Enter Yours] | Ford Mustang Mach-E Forum - MachEforum.com

Based on orders received to date, I assume you wouldn't see a build date in Q1 2021 if you ordered today. In my situation, the best case scenario is that I receive a car in late March or early April.

I ordered on 9/30/2020 hoping for a build date around April of 2021. I recently got a build week of 2/22 which has since moved to 2/14. So, if you order now, you might get a build date in late March or early April. A lot depends on how they queue up the plant for the different models.

Yeah, I ordered a Premium RWD EX IB in the middle of Oct and I also have a 2/14 build week. I think that’s the same model you list in your signature. So I definitely think there is a lot of “batching” going on.

March if you are extremely lucky, could be as late as June.

Following this thread as I hope to get delivery between July and October and have been trying to guess when I should order. (My lease expires on July 1, but I have the option of extending by three months until Oct 1.)

At this point is there any thinking that an order after a certain date might be a 2022 instead of a 2021 model? I realize that timing for the 2021 model deliveries isn't all that clear, so this is probably a crazy question...

A couple more possible options to watch for -- cancellations that end up in dealer stock, and FCTP demos that might be offered for purchase in the Spring/Summer.

Probably be hot commodities though.

I ordered a Premium, AWD, ER today in Dallas. I was expecting to be told that it would be Summer before my car would show up. But the sales manager for the dealership told me that I could expect the car in about 12 weeks. I find that really hard to believe but that's what I was told.

It‘s common for dealers to make things up when they don’t know the real answer.

Car dealers typically have no idea what they are talking about, and the few that do are liars. So either way, you have to take anything they tell you with a grain of salt.

Given the opportunity, I think Ford might group similar cars together so I think it varies with the model, options, color you order. I would order now if you want one end of March. There could be a spike in demand after the drive video review embargo was lifted or limited battery supplies could bring a sudden halt to accepting new orders. My current lease ends March 27 so I ordered Extended Range AWD Premium in Infinite Blue Metallic order number 10027320 placed 10/29/2020, and they have given me build date week of January 25. The dealer had said delivery to me around Valentines Day so keeping my fingers crossed.

And when you left the salesguys gathered up and had a good laugh

No seriously on average 12 weeks is usual... But not for a new car with still limited production levels

I've ordered mine 4 weeks ago and dealer said they had no idea for my build date... Still no news but hoping to see it by Summer. But if it's September so be it!!!

Yup. My dealer did the same thing. Either ignorance or they want to mislead you to make a sale. In my case it was ignorance in that the dealer was basing his assumption on ordering "regular" Fords. I ordered on 10-11-2020 and expect to see the car sometime between April and June because it's a popular car with a lot of reservations starting in January 2020 (I think) and the effects/logistics of Covid-19 and the vaccine.

I reserved in late January and ordered in June when orders first opened. I do not expect to see a car before late spring at the earliest.
