The new system based on Ford's announced partnership with Google would be Android Automotive, not Android Auto. The former is an Android based operating system in-vehicle, with custom Ford developed UI features that could still support Apple CarPlay, while the latter is a screen projection technology that requires a connected Android handset, and is already supported.

I don't think there's been any public announcement regarding which vehicle lines that Android Automotive system would start with.

Either you have an excellent memory or excellent search skills. Perhaps both? I only vaguely recall that particular blurb. If it didn't happen in the past 2 hours my memory is hazy. :)

Thanks for the link.

Maybe not the center screen, but the IPC of the Lightning is very different than the MME.
Well ya, it’s a totally different shape screen. ?
I don’t think we’ll get anything like that on the Mach-E, no need for it. Which is good, I like the clean UI design.

Not that different of a shape IMO - could easily be adapted.

It’s not as short as the Mach-E. They are different aspect ratios.

That's why I said adapted. Resizing of some of the elements, and bringing down the stuff on the top to the center isn't exactly reinventing the wheel. If nothing else, the design language is definitely better than the Fisher-Price "My First Car" quality of the current IPC.

See I’m the opposite. I don’t want ANY of the junk the F150 has. I love the clean UI. The battery bar in engage is my primary mode, then the glowing diagrid of unbridled ?. I hope they never change that.

I’m still waiting to be able to play blocks. If they can’t accomplish that for me… I sincerely doubt a complete GUI redesign is gonna happen.

To each their own! :) I would love to have the power bar and current mi/kWH displayed. It's disappointing that Ford hasn't allowed customization/configuration of some screen elements like other models have. Lame for a $50k+ vehicle.

For instance on Tesla their update on the UI meant you could costomize what you kept in bar on the bottom. So there is a lot they could update without changing the look massively.
iPhone updates don't mostly change the UI massively but give upgrades to what you can do within the UI.

That's why making it customizable to suit each of our needs is ideal.

I really really really really wish that I could upgrade the infotainment system hardware. That’s my only major dislike with the Mach-E. It’s very slow and the lag between presses is too much.

I would gladly drop in a Ryzen 5950X and 32GB of RAM.

I couldn't agree more, especially about "the Fisher-Price "My First Car" quality of the current IPC"! ?

Yeah, a place for custom shortcuts would go a long way. For example: shortcut to the camera.
Yes! Or a shortcut to open the rear hatch. And to change the a/c.

Also, how about…… crazy idea I know…… buttons that stay in the same place!!

The car moves where NAV, radio and CarPlay are randomly every time I start the car.
