I don’t even see a single error message generally if I remote start the car a couple minutes before going out to it. With the close to hundred degree temperatures lately, that’s very easy to do. If it was winter time, I’d be happy to be warming it up before I go out to it also. Otherwise, it doesn’t bother me very much. Unless it’s in my garage, I’m not inclined to leave the 3X connected and in plain view. Disconnecting it when not in use seems to be related to how many errors I see when I start up the car. I’m really just getting used to using it at this point and won’t necessarily be using it all the time. It’s going to be very useful to me when I’m on a road trip and well worth the trouble if there is any.

YMMV ?

Finally had some time to install the 3x. So, installed bluepilot and did a couple of trips around town. Then, when I tried starting my car in the parking lot, got the error "Stop Safely Now" and accessory mode only and couldn't start my car. Stuck in the parking lot for 30 minutes trying to restart the comma or unplugging some things. Tried unplugging everything, the Comma and OBD and still gave me errors. I had to repry the trunk panel and remove the harness to get my car to start.

I tried again today and the Comma says to calibrate by driving but my car gives the error "Hill Start Assist not available" and "Stop Safely Now" and accessory mode like before and I can't get past it.

Any help? Was driving around a fluke or did something somehow break within 30 min of driving around?

Sounds like you might have a bad harness.

I messaged Comma about the issue and the engineer said,

"
We see from the logs that you are running a fork, which is likely the source of your issue. It's not uncommon to have issues like this when running forks and as such we do not recommend using them unless you are prepared to do your own troubleshooting.

We suggest you try the following:
1. Let the device rest for an hour.
2. Try powering it back on.
3. Use flash.comma.ai to restore your device.

If the issue persists, you can send the device back to us under our policy for devices running forks. Let us know if you would like to proceed, and we can provide further details.

I tried unplugging everything.
1. unplugging the comma and then the usb c connection from the harness
2. the OBD and then rj45 cable from the harness
3. everything unplugged from the harness except the car's LKAS cable in the harness and the harness male end back into the car.

My car still would not start until I removed the harness and inserted the original LKAS cable back into the car.

And then it started right? That’s what I’m not clear on.

if it did, then you have a bad harness. If you are within the 30 day return window you could just order a new one and return the bad one, easier than going through customer support. If you are outside the 30 day window then you need to install stock OP long enough to prove to them it still has errors and that the fork is not your issue. I can help you with that if you need to deal with support.

Yes, everything back to original works. Well, I sent that previous message about whether the harness would work by itself with nothing plugged in and waiting to hear their response. I purchased end of last year so past the 30 days if that's the warranty, not a year?

Are they asking me to factory reset it or is the flash.comma.ai a diagnostic tool? Directions seem clear enough if i need to got that route i think but help is always appreciated. :)

It should work fine with just the harness and no comma. A fork can’t break the harness. If they are still being stubborn after your last email shoot me a DM and I’ll walk you through getting a stock route.

warranty is 1 year, but within 30 days you can return no questions asked. its easier to return and buy a new one than make a warranty claim.

Looks like Comma have updated their OBD2 harness, it’s about 8ish feet long, no more RJ45
I’ll have to check to see if will work.

Interested to see what we can do in Mach E. You can always omit it. The device works fine without the ODB2, it just powers down between drives.

Worse case I’ll slice it and extend it
Update:
It looks like ATX 4 pin cable might work. I’ll order one today
