Looking into it more, because the MME uses CAN-FD, we would need to get the CAN-FD kit for the Red Panda as well as the Ford Q4 car harness. This solution would run about $650 total, so more than the mongoose cable. While it should work fine for FDRS, the only time this would make sense with the increased price would be if you also plan to run OpenPilot.

@Mikeg you will either need to also order the Ford Q4 harness from the car harness section of the store for an additional $200 or bail out alltogether (unless you wanted to eventually try out OpenPilot that is)

I have the equipment.
I just have to bite the bullet and pay the $850/year license subscription...
Yeah, same here. I have to watch the kibble output. ??

I thought I came across one of the forums saying the mongoose could be had for $400 new somewhere. Seems like an easy choice given it works.

Someone else found a VCM2 clone on ali that worked. $200.

I had good luck withe two of the Clore PL2320 running parallel, updated something like 16-20 modules over two days, I lost count. A true marathon session.

If you are willing to help owners in your area, you can just ask them to pay the $50 for a two day license. The list hasn’t seen any new names since December.

There’s been no new names since December. Could use some in Canada.
I think liability is part of the concern there. I'm highly technical, and I would be willing to update my own car, but if I try and do an FDRS update on someone else's vehicle and things don't go well, I'm not willing to shoulder that liability.

I understand some with the equipment have owners press the necessary buttons and only really provide the equipment and the technical know how. Maybe a generic waiver can be made available too so liability is not an issue?

Interesting, didn't realize that might be a concern for people. I haven't heard of anyone bricking a Mach-E with FDRS before. Worst case I've seen is something doesn't update so you are just stuck with the old software, car still drives. I guess I've used FDRS enough to be confident I'm not going to hurt anything. If something goes wrong, myself and others on the forum would be willing to support you. Since you're using Ford's official flashing tool, a dealer shouldn't deny warranty coverage if something bad goes wrong. So I really don't think it should be a big concern.

I don't like the idea of signing waivers, we need to get past being a litigious society and just trust people. To me that's like asking your babysitter to sign a waiver, just choose carefully.

I agree with this so much. The members of this forum are so incredibly patient and helpful it's downright amazing. I did my first flash with FDRS over the weekend and I'll admit it was a clunky and scary experience, but the support I got from forum members really did help ease my concerns (I was freakin out maaaaaan). :)

I don’t think a waiver is necessary. As long as the owner of the car is doing the actual update, there should not be an issue. Most of what needs to be done in FDRS is reading what’s on the screen (which is where I think a lot of service techs fail and then give up, as @Mike G has seen). ?‍♂?

It’s pretty hard to screw up more than the dealers already do…

Yep, but all it takes is one bad flash, and someone who isn't understanding, and now I'm being sued to fix their car. Doesn't matter if the lawsuit won't go anywhere, I have a family to take care of and that isn't a financial risk that I am willing to take. I'm sure there are others that feel this way as well.

More power to the people who are comfortable doing this for others, but I personally can't take on that level of risk.
