We resemble that remark! ??
Well, I will admit that California has one of my most favorite places in the US - the Mojave desert and Death Valley ?

Dm'd you my response. Thanks so much for the offer.

Like I mentioned, I had hoped that since OTA updates stopped working that any manual process (FDRS etc) would be plug-and-play.... no such luck I guess.

I will figure out my exact path based on my car and decide between dealer service (they seem to know nothing )or third-party.

Thanks again!
Sent you the modules avail to you over DM -- I think all of them shouldn't pose problems to update. However you should make a dealer do the 21P22 warranty update on your early-build car, which should address some of these updates.

Just looked at the service notes for the last time I was at the dealership (Feb 18) and it lists 21P22 Software Calibration Update in the line notes of the work order I got. Does this mean 21P22 was already applied?

They told me that they had updated all of the modules at the time, but when I got back in my car I saw that none of the software issues had changed, just that my front door would now open when I approached it (which was the main reason I brought it in).

Does this mean I can go ahead with the remaining FDRS updates, or that they possibly didn't actually apply 21P22 correctly or at all?

I'm not familiar with what 21P22 updates in terms of modules -- there seem to be lots of updates available for your car according to FDRS.

I was wondering how many have done FDRS updates for others that are in close proximity to you? I've thought about offering it up around me, but always have a nagging feeling of what if something goes wrong and now I have someone else's car stuck in my garage until it can get towed out/fixed.

I've done enough updates between FDRS and IDS and even loading improper calibrations on APIMs for "added features" on previous vehicles to know that it's safe and there's really a super low chance something could happen, but there's always a chance. I'd hate to end up with in an argument over who's fault is it. I also would like folks that can't afford all the hardware to be able to easily get updates. I attribute keeping the software updated to all my problem-free miles.

What are the thoughts of the group?
Does updating the car yourself void the car warranty?

It won't void your whole car warranty. If you bricked a module doing an update yourself, I'd bet that they're not going to fix it for you for free.

If you updated modules in your car and everything was 100% successful, but later on something broke, they'd be hard-pressed to blame it on you for updating a module with ford software and tools.

Reviving this thread. Anyone in the Philadelphia vicinity with the ability to do module updates?

@i8iridium You’re about 4 hours from me and my driver door module just started exhibiting issues that are resolved by a BCM update… May I interest you in a weekend vacation to the beautiful mountains of Roanoke, VA? ?

*you may have to work on my farm, fix my DDM, and sleep in an uncomfortably small child sized bed as terms of your vacation*

**Food not included, but you get free beer and wine**

I'm thinking of investing in the tools to do FDRS updates as a side gig. I can't seem to find anyone else in my area besides the dealers who can do this, so perhaps I have found an uptapped niche? Obviously I would get vehicle owners to sign a waiver before I updated the vehicles. What would be a good rate to charge others? What should I know before I get started? I'm simply trying to get feedback. Thanks

I've offered to do updates for people in the MSP area and have only gotten a couple takers in a year. There is a stigma associated with having some random dude do your updates rather than the dealer, even though we are way better at it. It hasn't proven to be popular.

I think Andy (scoopman) was the most successful updater, there are a lot more Mach-E's in San Fransisco, so a greater chance of people wanting to head over locally. Or maybe it was just the YouTube fame. ?

So my advice would be make the decision based on your own needs, don't expect to get much business.
