Are you saying you think Ford actually made the filter?
By made, I mean "had some meetings, talked engineering, met with the accountants, had the lawyers review it, delegated it to 3 different departments, issued an RFP to suppliers, and then requisitioned the parts......"

K&N makes an Aviator filter (which also fits the MME). From the pictures it looks like it includes a charcoal pre-filter for odors. I might have to buy one after I get my MME.

Just got mine from Pureflow direct and replaced. Has to be one of the easiest replacement designs. Everything snapped in/out with just my hand no tools needed. Took about 2 minutes. When pulling the existing cheapo filter yank it gently side to side so it doesn't rip apart on you. I didn't notice a huge change in air flow but that maybe because the existing air filter was already clogged w/ gunk!

Drove by the local pumping station to verify effectiveness and it seems to work real well. One step below the Audi Etron. On the Etron I can't make out the difference between recirc out outside air on odors w/ ionizer. That's just a whole different level of design. I can make out the odors on the MachE but much improved.

Something like that, yeah :D
Air cabin filters have been standard issue by almost all manufacturers for quite a few years now. Every automaker would outsource it to a filter manufacturer who would supply it based on the automaker's specs.
I guess I found it curious that you would find that so hilarious - is it because it is Ford, or is it that every automaker outsources a part they use in their car? ?

Hilarious that anyone would think the oem cabin filter was *designed* to actually filter the air with a thin piece of accordion folded crepe paper. Maybe it keeps out some dust, but definitely not smells or most pollutants.

OK, I understand. I haven't looked at the filter on my Mach-E so perhaps it's flimsier than I expected. My last three cars have been Hondas and I thought the cabin filters were pretty decent.

It it's as bad as I'm reading here, it might be even more hilarious that the recommended interval to change it is 20,000 miles, which is what I think I read. No way will I wait that long.

Coffee filters actually do something. They filter. :p

I think the consensus among cabin air filter aficionados is that the OEM filter is devoid of merit as a filter of olfactory offensive substances.

I’ll replace mine with a HEPA version when they’re available in Hawaii, which will be April 32, 2437. Or when the Koa trees are next in bloom, that’ll be around April next year. ;)

Stupid Sandy Munro jinxed me!!! I got the Pureair filter, which is truly delightful and is meritorious for it's removal of olfactory offenses....

But when I went to swap it out, I broke one of the tiny stupid Sandy Munro-approved snaps on the filter cover!!!!! ????? And, yes, I blame Sandy for it.

I'm on the fence on replacing the part because the snap is on the filter holder, not the cover, so the entire assembly would need to be replaced. Who the f*ck designed that to be unserviceable under normal handling, requiring delicate ambidextrous fingers (using three hands simultaneously) with just enough force to push the snap open without breaking it in half??!?

You. Know. The. Answer.

Sandy “I Used To Work For Ford” Munro.

Why does that remind me of Marlon Brando’s “On the Water Front” scene? ;)

But seriously, should I replace the entire thing? LOL

When the parts are available in 2023?

Will the cover stay on as it is currently? What is involved in replacing the housing? If you have to remove the dash and the HVAC case to do it, I'd say no.

Two answers. Take your pick.

1. is it visible and will it make a rattle? If no. When parts are available. Currently that’s scheduled for June 31, 2024.
2. Duct Tape! Duct tape is your friend. Bonus points for using aviation grade speed tape. That’ll set you back 1000x the amount of the tape you can get at Ace Hardware, but think of the bragging rights!

I like the aviation tape.

But to answer the questions, its not visible because it's behind the glove box, and the cover stays on fine and isn't rattling... But I could probably put a tiny bit of duct tape where the half remaining snap is it necessary to stop a rattle. I just hate that my baby has a lung defect now.
