Some kind of converter would not be feasible?
Less drain on the HV battery to power it all off of a 12V battery and recharge the 12V battery as needed than to keep the step-down voltage converter running all the time. ??

Sorry if this has been covered before, but why even the need for 12V batteries in EVs?
Because you don't want 400 volt power running your cabin electronics, lights, etc.

Sure, then you are keeping 400v electricity live throughout much of the vehicle at all times.

You could have some kick-ass pony lights, though:

Seriously, though, you would have to keep that 400v to 12v converter live at all times, even when the car is off. Not a smart idea.

That's what you already have - complete with a 12v battery to allow the converter to not run all the time. I think the big thing is they all want to keep the HVB disconnected when the car is idle for the most part for safety reasons. But maybe there is DOT/NHTSA requirements too?

Afraid to comment, one year and one month anniversary with our EVPONY and no issues. Well except still no Blue cruise. Hopefully the GT being built on the 18th will have it. I do see a commonality for all who have had minor issues; they've all removed the plastic film protection on both screens. I think it's more important than people realize. Luckily my wife has not let me take it off.

Is there a reason why BEV don’t have the jump start button like the regular hybrids have? My wife’s ioniq has a button that will transfer power from the batteries to the 12v in case it dies, doesn’t look like the BEV Ioniq has it though?

I think this really just goes to show that some of the software bugs we see isn't just Ford being bad with software its happening to many different manufactures.

I also think that the 12v system gets overlooked in general. ICE cars have had 12v issues as well. I think its thought of as something that just works because its been around forever, but on an EV especially, everything requires 12v to function at all.
when my 2013 Fusion Energi had a 12V battery problem, it caused all kinds of wacky behavior for a couple of weeks before the battery finally went out and stranded me (it was at an airport parking lot in winter because of course it was).

when my 1995 Mustang GT had a 12V battery problem, it caused all kinds of wacky behavior before finally leaving me stranded in the middle of the NM desert.

there's a certain volume magnification thing, where like so much else on this forum, there's a small number of very vocal people relative to the number of owners overall.

I guarantee if forums like this existed in this form in 1995, there would have been all kinds of things in my '95 that people would have gone crazy about that were things that normal people just accepted as part of, you know, car ownership. ("How could they have only offered a four speeds in the automatic?" or "This five gear transmission limit in the manual is crazy, Ford has to give me at least a 6-speed or else I'm getting smoked at the track and that impacts every single owner everywhere! What a joke for something called a 'Mustang GT' to be so limited!" or "This Mach-460 sound system sucks, it's embarrassing!" or...)
