iOS 26 CarPlay on Mach-E

Just wanted to share some photos of how the CarPlay changes look on the Mach-E with iOS 26.

I solved the flaky connection to Carplay with a new phone and Android Auto. Much superior connection, zero lost connections, and better layout. Preconditioning today and zero regrets. Never thought it would be Carplay to get me back to Android but there you go.

Same here, CarPlay and Apple refusing to pass API to third party apps made me try Android Auto. Now the iPhone 16PM sits in a drawer and I'm using the new Samsung S25 Edge. Soooo much better even for everyday tasks and Gemini is terrific.

Just ask Siri. I'm sure she can share some webpages on how good Gemini is (or maybe she can ask ChatGPT).

Did they fix the podcast issue? While driving, can you choose more than the first 10 channels alphabetically? Such a pain!!

Does Apple Maps now have pinch to zoom? At least on the 2D view if not the 3D?

Apple CarPlay is behind Android Auto with the maps. It’s obnoxious trying to deal with interacting with Apple Maps in the car. It’s a giant map screen in our car and iOS won’t let you do any movement with it. Lame!

4 in the dock. Curious how widgets can change things. It’s not CarPlay ultra but appreciate every add on we get. How about view turn by turn road names? Or ability to stay zoomed further out?

Can you talk to Siri without the map freezing while you do?

That’s one of those little things that’s always annoyed me. I’d do it and dictate a text message or it would read a text I got from someone in the map would just freeze until it was done. Then it would update.

I’m really hoping they fixed that.

Ford Nav nails a lot of the things but is honestly harder for me to see and read - I have much preferred the presentation or color schemes and graphics of Apple maps, Waze and Google Maps in appearance - but none of them offer the turn by turn - except Ford Nav. So, I am hopeful... so I am downloading the developer beta now so I can see for self what it can do. The conversation here is about iOS 26 and CarPlay. You know?

That’s like that in the music as well. It’s a motion limit to keep you from scrolling like crazy.

If you have your iPhone mounted alongside the sync screen, then it will display a turn by turn list while navigating.

This is an intentional thing to limit scrolling. What I do that works pretty well is to create stations. I have different stations with my different podcasts types grouped. In the station settings there is a toggle for Group By Show. This will make it show up as individual podcasts shows when you click a station.

For my example, I have a station called Wondery. If I click that it takes me to a screen that shows me the 10 Wondery podcasts I listed to. I then have other similar groups. Just treat stations like folders/containers and it can work very well to make Podcasts better in CarPlay.
