While I wait for my stuck APIM to update via USB, I am wanting to make sure my IPC is also up-to-date. I took a look at my vehicle history in FDRS and it appears that in July, the dealer tried to update the IPC but it didn't finish. I no longer see an IPC update in SW Updates. Is there a way to check this or get the SW update to reappear?

VIN is 3FMTK2R75MMA36395 if anyone needs to see what I am talking about in FDRS. IPC (failed) update happened around early July.

Thanks for your advice.

It's likely they just didn't wait long enough or said it failed before it had completed. The fact that it was removed from the list suggests it is properly installed. If you want to update again you can run the IPC PMI and select that it is a new/replaced module. My opinion is that if it seems to be fine then don't worry about it.

Cool. I still don’t have the Odometer reading to the decimal point, which indicates a pretty up to date IPC. Will this update come after I get my APIM unstuck from 1.7.1?

I suspect this would be the case. When your APIM is fully updated if your IPC seems to have issues then try a PMI.

Yes it failed. If it doesn't show up you'll have to do APIM and maybe GWM updates first and then it might show up.

They did module repair on your APIM already so you should be unstuck from 1.7.1.

I saw that they did a module repair successfully in July as well, but they never successfully completed my APIM update. I’ve just assumed I’m stuck at 1.7.1 or below because I don’t have the sketch app or any of that. I don’t have full screen CarPlay either and my vehicle has never prompted me for an OTA update.

When I tried to run APIM update, I successfully downloaded software but my vehicle didn’t recognize the USB stick within the 10 minute timeframe that FDRS suggests. That’s why I’ve just been driving around with the USB in for weeks

And fwiw, the USB is a 3.0 64 gb Sandisk formatted exFAT with the name "USB"

I see someone kept running module repair after that repeatedly so your APIM is now locked and has to be replaced. I'm not sure that it can be updated anymore. Module update repair can only be run a max of 15 times and only within a 20 day window.

I would agree that that is the case if it weren't for the fact that I tried running the APIM update with the same results before it would have been presumably locked out.

Rough timeline of events based on my memory (my FDRS license is expired):

1 - Early July: Dealer ran module repair
2- Early July: Dealer still couldn't get APIM to update
3 - Late August: I couldn't get APIM to recognize USB drive after multiple tries
4 - Late August: I tried to run Module repair for the very first time and it said it could be locked out and couldn't download diagnostic files

If I can't get it to update in the next several weeks, I guess my only option is to take it to a dealer. This really all is the first dealer's fault though for saying they completed the Blue Cruise update but didn't . Ugh.

Once module repair was successful, it shouldn’t have been run ever again. I would take it to the dealer now, as APIMs are on infinite backorder currently. You’ll probably have to wait several months for a part. Too many techs are bricking them and there’s only a limited supply.

What reasoning do they have that it bricks after so many attempts? I mean, if this was something that could be done remotely, then okay, a security feature, I guess? But recovery mode requires all kinds of special tools. So dumb.

I'm sure it was carefully thought through. After all 14... sure that is ok... but 15?

Something to do with cyber security IDK. It might generate a new encryption key or something since a valid auth is required to flash software.
