So Today my GPS was way off the entire journey there and back. I have an Iphone 15 Pro Max, using carplay with the latest IOS . I had heard the Apple Maps may be the issue, but changing to Google Maps had the same issue of not being able to track where i was on the map. Picking up my phone and doing the figure 8 with it, fixed it temporarily, so im still thinking its getting the gps info from the phone not the car. Seems very intermittent working fine one day, then like today was totally not working.

Ok I feel your pain on this but hear me out….

I had the same issue with my 14 Pro Max. The issue is you have too many apps accessing the GPS in your phone. Here is what I did to fix it:

Hope this helps! Sorry if someone has already answered this issue.
Finally, actually, really, looked at this. 60+ apps chewing my GPS. WTH. I actually turn off most of the location stuff so I found this a little amazing. I tried. I don't expect much really but one more thing checked off.

Also 17.1 seems to have reintroduced the inability to answer my phone with the slider. Regressed several years on that one.

Keep me updated. I haven’t had a problem with mine since turning off all those apps. Now I go with “allow while using” so it only uses it when I am actively using the app.

Nope, my Apple maps are all over the place. I just open car play and watch as I drive down the street. I'm in the middle of houses, sometimes the GPS is about 200 feet late to the game, I turn right the map thinks I'm doing doughnuts or a Gymkana course. Doesn't matter where the phone is, because I held it out the window with the same effect. In my left pocket it's completely useless due to the door modules.

Doing all the location services stuff also didn’t fix mine. Not sure what to try next.

Did you tried to put your phone on phone holder close to the windshield, in the glasses compartment or under the armrest? In my case keeping the phone in this places resolve the GPS issue.

There are varying opinions on this. My iPhone 15 sucks no matter which vehicle I’m in, my iPhone 12 worked virtually flawlessly in the mme. I’m now officially back using the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Does your phone display incorrect positions when you’re just walking around, away from your car?

You may want to review the technical information about CarPlay that I posted the link to earlier.

No clue. It’s in my pocket while walking.

it’s also not consistent. Sometimes it's right on the mark then a bit later it’s saying we’re swimming in the Pacific Ocean. It’s consistently inconsistent in both the Raptor and the MME though.

15 pro max no issues to speak of yet here. Nevermind, I'm sure I'll have plenty no after posting this...

I'm wiping and restoring. Due to some other things that are also pissing me off. I have to open the app on my phone in order to open or close my garage door. The widget and my watch don't work unless I open the app on the phone seconds before. I think this is some security thing or sleep thing. Which would make sense that it also forks up the gps. It's not just the apple maps but waze, google etc are all acting up. Thinking the GPS software might be sleeping or choked by some security thing. I didn't have much going on today anyway.

Phone is always spot on outside of the car. I haven't done too much navigation walking around with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, my iPhone 14 Pro had the same CarPlay issue and I walked around extensively with that phone while navigating every day on my business trips and it worked perfectly.

To be fair, swimming in the Pacific is only a couple streets over for you. If it said I was swimming in the Pacific that would be much worse.

It is better in those spots and I usually put it in the cupholder or passenger seat for best performance. The hope is that I can get in my car and it just works.

I know CarPlay is supposed to use my car GPS, but my guess is the car GPS is getting dropped in the connection due to either a phone or car issue. CarPlay can run off phone GPS if the car doesn't provide the GPS signal to the phone. So either the car isn't sending the GPS data, the phone is not receiving the GPS data, or the phone receives the data but discards or merges the data. My car GPS is always spot on when I switch over to check.
