It’d be interesting, although rather useless to us, to see what Apple uses GPS wise. How many satellites, averaging etc. What might h be more useful us to know just what the changed (in layman’s terms) in regards to their gps receiver on the iPhone 15 and/or software. There are too many folks with issues that haven’t had those issues in the past. And as far as we know Ford hasn’t changed a thing related to GPS.
I’m using an app called “GPS data”. It does NOT give you number of satellites in view or signal quality. I don’t think any of the free ones do?

Today I learned you can delete the Apple Maps and reinstall it. This was due to contacting genius thing through chat. I deleted the maps and reinstalled them, and I was getting a swinging motion while walking down the street now that appears to have gone mostly away if not completely away. So there’s something others can try. Doesn’t make any sense that the GPS would feed through Apple Maps in order to feed to Waze and everything else but there is a chance.

Could any of these issues be because of location? I don't know. Like I said at the beginning of this thread, I have absolutely no issues with the 15 Pro nor any of the two previous phones (13 Pro, 14 Pro) with my Mach-E.

Yesterday, I drove from my home in Sonora to SF Bay Area, 131 miles. As usual, Maps was spot on with all directions plus alerting me of two accidents and one road hazard. Starting from my home Siri let me know I would have 48% battery charge when I arrived. It is always a conservative estimate as I had 52% when I got to Menlo Park. I drove my friends around to Stanford, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale and then brought them up to the Daily City BART station as they were going into SF and I would be going home. After dropping them off at BART I selected my home destination and Siri informed me I would need to make one stop at the EA charging stations in Pleasanton to charge the car. I would have 19% charge when arriving but actually had 21%. While I was charging the car, I kept Maps open as it was updating my drive home and the battery charge percentage I would have. It kept showing I would need to make another stop until my battery had charged to 69% then it said I would make it home and would arrive with a 20% charge. I unplugged the charger (was actually at 70% now) and drove home and when arrived had 22% SOC. All of this went perfectly without a hitch which is what I am used to.

Now, the reason I said maybe this can have something to do with location is my friend in Arizona who has a '21 Premium (my previous Mach-E) which is up to date with the same exact Sync software as mine, he has been having GPS issues with his 15 Pro like many here are. Maybe some phones are defective? Maybe some areas cause issues with the phone and GPS? I am not at all a software guy or know nearly as much about these things as most of you but when I go to Arizona later this month, I am going to connect my phone to his car and see if I have the same issues he has or it will work perfectly as it does in my car.

That’s why I’m at the Genius Bar currently, to see if this is a hardware issue. While,my phone wasn’t a launch day phone I did get it that weekend which means that they had it in stock at the store, so it was one of the first batches made.

Mine was delivered on launch day, Friday Sept. 22.

I hate to see all these issues. I went testing. I tested my 15 pro max and my wife’s 12. MME, F150 2018, aftermarket radio in Fiat Abarth. I can’t find any issues. I took 280mile trip to the mountains with my F150 and had no issues for my 15pro max. But! I do run developer betas and I’m on iOS 17.2 (21C5029g)

So the bar is leaning towards a full wipe and not transferring anything on the restore. That’s something in the restore is getting carried over and having issues. I might be able to try this sometime this week, but I have security keys on my phone that I cannot live without, so I need to see whether or not I can wipe and start from scratch.

accuracy did improve from deleting the Apple Maps app, but that doesn’t explain any other app and the car. I’ve always had a problem latching onto cell towers like I’ll have 3 to 5 minutes of cellular blackout from time to time. Tmobile hasn’t been able to fix that in 10 years.

I can try a full wipe tonight I think. I keep my keys on my iPad as well so I should be able to deal.

so….factory reset. Setup as new device. No restoring. At some point though it will iCloud sync. That should be fine right?

Yeah. The problem being when it syncs and possibly brings whatever is messed up back. The apps prefs are stuffed in icloud. Along with system prefs. But I was told, when set up as a new phone those don't copy over. My TOPT and other keys I don't want to lose. I had 'just enough' time to do it yesterday but decided to take a break from it after spending the last 2 days logging back into all my junk.

I will note that deleting Maps seems to have brought my horizontal accuracy down from 140ft to about 20 every time I've looked. But my map and the car still swings all over the place when making a turn. Almost like accelerometer is too sensitive.

One thing I did think of is if this was a setting that got messed up in the last 16's it would make sense. And if that pref was upgraded every time since.

Though I don't actually back up to icloud so technically I wouldn't have those copy over. I'm backing up again now and will try it from scratch, worst case I restore it again. Worst thing is getting my cards back into Applepay after the initial deep breathe as I open DUO and Verify.

When I got my new phone I forgot about a work authenticator that had no backup keys anywhere. So I go to login to a site I need to do my job and instantly like...oh shit. I looked online and it said go here to reset and all that. To get to that page I need to authenticate. I contact IT and they were completely useless. The put my issue under MDM which diverted it to the wrong team. I kept telling them over and over that the authenticator is 100% separate from MDM since you can put it on your phone without MDM installed. I finally found a contact and messaged them. They sent one email and got everything fixed up.

My problem was Apple removed Authenticator+ which put me in the bind. I don't see anything in the UI to not copy over the settings from the phone on a back up. Time to poke the backup with a hex stick.

Today I learned how to actually force restart the phone.
Click vol up
Click vol down
Hold lock button
Keep holding and it’ll restart and give
You the Apple screen.
Interestingly I got 2 messages I should have send weeks ago or days ago from restoring. About my watch being added to my account.

That’s how you’ve had to restart since iPhone 11.
