Is there still battery longevity anxiety?

I remember when I first got my Mach E in April of 2021 one of the persistent topics on this forum was anxiety on how long the batteries would last. We were given warnings by members of this forum not to charge over 80% regularly and certainly don't charge to 100% regularly. The posters were confident in their advice. Dire things would happen.

In the ensuing years I ignored that advice and I have regularly charged my batteries to 90%, never lower, and at least once a week to 100% and have seen no appreciable reduction in range. My usage pattern is pretty predictable each week and the range I get is almost identical to what it was 4 years ago. I'm not saying that the batteries will last forever but I simply don't have any anxiety over their life.

When you say "range you get", what exactly do you mean?

I hope you don't mean the "range" guess o meter at 100 percent change.

I would love to know more about 21 owners SOH for the battery, as measured by the OBD2 SOH variable, and with the number of miles as well as age.

I feel fairly confident about the battery stability. 23 owner. Would always love more data though.

My Mach-E is like the poster child for how far battery longetivity has come since the battery tech in my previous Leaf.

One is responsible for the co$t of a replacement battery being commonly discussed as a factor of ownership.
The other pretty much relegated the subject moot.

I had a 2013 LEAF, sold it in 2022 with 90K miles and it had lost 1 of the 12 bars.

That goalpost has moved awhile ago. First it was the people in the $100,000 plus pickup trucks saying only rich people could afford $50,000 EVs, then there was no place to charge and if you did charge it would take you 10 days, of course that was followed up by the you can't just jump in and drive from New York to LA non-stop in an EV! And then finally our batteries were going to die after 3 miles of use and they cost $50,000 to replace. Oh yeah and let's not forget the same people with the $100,000 trucks who put $20,000 worth of rims and tires on them. Pointing out that EV tires only last for 100 mi in each tire cost $2,000. I really don't know where the goal post is now. But I'm pretty sure my ev's going to catch on fire any second. The tires need replaced because they've been sitting for 2 days and I'm not even been able to drive my EV because can't even charge it because of the rolling blackouts that all these EVS caused

Nice I sold my 2013 Leaf in 2020, 85k miles, charged daily from 3% to 100%, and I had only lost one bar also. That experience reassured me about battery life. And for those watching those had no thermal management.

My Job 1 '21 has a SOH of 88% at 60,000 miles, but it needs a good calibration as I suspect I can get it closer to 90%.

I charge to 80% most of the time, 100% on occasion, and some DCFC.

Much more worried about the longevity of the 3.5 ecoboost in my F-150 than the longevity of the HVB in my Mach-E’s.

2021 Job 2 with over 103k miles. I regularly charge to 80%. I DCFC when I need to and don't worry about it. I travel a lot with it, hence the miles. Last I checked it was at 97% SOH. I haven't check in a while and have never gone through the calibration procedure.

Other than an unfortunate incident where a chunk of truck tire took out the cooling louvers and condenser, I am only out of pocket for 2 sets of tires.

HVBJB replaced once due to failure early on and a second one due to the recall.

So...............I ain't ascared ;)

88% after 60,000 miles isn't terrible.

If you charge to 100%, it will sit at 99% for possibly several hours as it balances the cells. If you unplug it at 99%, SOC will jump to 100%, but the balancing won't be finished. In your case, I'd charge to 100% 2-3 times over a few weeks and let it finish the balancing process each time (100% SOC while plugged in) and see if that balances your cells and improves your SOH.

I'm not worried. I do get fewer comments now from the EV uniformed crowd than I did 4 years ago. However, I live in Oregon. EVs are really common here and experience eventually drowns out the nonsense. When I travel to the mid west it's like traveling back in time... The number EVs I see goes way down and the number of EV ignorant comments goes way up.

Thank you. I saw a jump from 87% to 88% after one 100% charge, and I do not push the lower end of my range as much as I could, so am doing that a bit more as well. I'll incorporate your suggestions. Thank you!

Battery longevity anxiety, not then, not now, not ever?

June ‘21 delivery now 115,000 miles up, c350 DCFC charges added to all those 11kW AC home charges, regularly charged to 100% sometimes 3 times per week otherwise it’s 95% a few times per week.

Never messed about with this “calibration” nonsense (only IMO)

HVB SoH is 93%.

My usage pattern is pretty unpredictable each week and the range I get is almost identical to what it was 4 years ago.

And before any smart arse asks “is that range you get or GOM rang?” it’s range I get or I would’ve said the range the GOM says id get?

I'm not saying that the battery will last forever but it WILL last forever ?

In my experience, pushing the lower end of the range as in down to sub-15% , charging back to 100% a couple times will notably improve your SoH. I have no idea why but on mine it took it from 70% to 95%.
