I noticed this as I was about to DCFC. The right pin seems to be missing a cap or something. The last time I used a DCFC was several weeks ago but it was dark so I didn't notice if it was gone then or not.

Anyway, I'm on a trip to Baltimore from Knoxville and have fast charged several times and it doesn't seem to be causing any issues.

Any insight appreciated, thanks

I’m not an expert on DCFC… but I checked mine out and it looks like a tapered guide to help center the pin. I’m guessing it’s not essential but it’s gotta be there for a reason… right? I’m curious to see what other comments you get.

We need to activate the @Mach-Lee "Bat Signal"....
Ha. The DC pin cap fell off. Well that's not ideal but it will still work. Just try to be careful about inserting the DC plug straight in and pulling it straight out (not at an angle). You should look inside the port with a flashlight and verify the cap didn't fall down inside and get wedged, if so then you should try to remove it because it can prevent plug insertion.

When you're done with your trip, you'll have to stop by your dealer, show them, and have them order you a new charge port.

My charge port was a 3 month backorder....

Would putting a tiny bit of dielectric grease on the charge pins or plug prevent this problem of pulling off dust caps or helping insert the charge plug without damaging pins? Is dielectric safe at charging voltage and DCFC amperage?

No, do not put any grease on the pins, that's bad. They are designed to be a dry wiping contact only. Grease will attract dirt and could cause contact issues.

OK, then. Question tho............82xxx miles, is this warranty? If not, what does a charge port cost?

Yes, 8yr/100k high voltage warranty. Costs about $1500 IIRC.

The outer pin cap is there to open the spring contacts and wipe them clean at insertion. Sometimes previous users of charging equipment are a bit careless with the charge cord and it gets foreign material in it. It's a area that one wants to keep as clean as is practical.

Appointment made for routine service and see what they have to say about this.

The Ford Battery Electric Vehicle Warranty Guide states the following under "What is Covered?", on page 18:

"(2) The high voltage battery and eDrive systems of your vehicle are covered by the Electric Vehicle Component coverage for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. High voltage
battery and eDrive components covered by this warranty include the high voltage battery assembly, Bussed Electrical Center (BEC), Battery Energy Control Module (BECM), on-board
charger, Inverter System Controller (ISC), DC/DC converter, and eDrive. If a covered component requires replacement under the Electric Vehicle Component warranty, it may be replaced with a
new, factory remanufactured, or factory refurbished component, at Ford’s discretion. Refurbished battery components selected for your vehicle will align with your vehicle’s age and mileage and
meet Ford’s requirements and standards."

I was told by my dealer's service department that the charge port fixture itself is NOT covered by the "8yr/100k Electric Vehicle Component" warranty.

They’re wrong, tell them to look it up by part number in their system. Don’t just assume it’s not covered, check.

OK, here's the scoop. Had the regular service done today and asked them to check the charge port. Was told it was not a serviceable part and needed replaced, under warranty (thankfully). They will order part and then we can schedule time to install it.

Part cost $880
Labor $1700

:eek::eek:

Dropped car of Thursday for the repair and car was completed Friday morning. they replaced the charge port and charged the car to make sure it worked. All under warranty, no cost to me.

Glad that's over now.................
